Regent Railway Station
Regent railway station is located on the Mernda line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the northern Melbourne suburb of Reservoir, and it opened on 8 October 1889 as Preston-Regent Street. It was renamed Regent on 1 August 1905. History Named after the locality and nearby Regent Street, Regent station opened on 8 October 1889, when the Inner Circle line was extended from North Fitzroy to Reservoir. In 1967, boom barriers replaced hand gates at the Regent Street level crossing, located nearby in the up direction of the station. In 1970, the present station buildings were provided. Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is the brand name for public transport in the Australian state of Victoria, Australia, Victoria. It was the trading name of the Go Public Transport Development Authority (PTDA), a now-defunct statutory authority in Victoria, responsible for providing, coordinating, and promoting public transport. The PTV began operating on 2 April 2012, taking over many of the responsibilities previously exercised by the Director of Public Transport and the Department of Transport (Victoria, 2008–13), Department of Transport. Inner Circle Railway Line
The Inner Circle Line was a steam era suburban railway line (later electrified) in Melbourne, Australia. It served the inner-northern suburbs of Parkville, Carlton North, Fitzroy North, and Fitzroy. At its closure, it ran from Royal Park station on the Upfield line in the west to a triangular junction with Rushall and Merri stations on today's Mernda line in the east. There was also a branch line to Fitzroy that opened at the same time. Northcote Plaza Shopping Centre is a sub regional shopping centre located in Northcote, Victoria, Northcote, in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria (Australia). Mernda Railway Station
Mernda railway station is the terminus of the suburban electrified Mernda line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Mernda, and it opened on 26 August 2018. History The original Mernda station opened on 23 December 1889, when the railway line from Epping was extended to Whittlesea. It was originally named South Yan Yean, and was renamed Mernda on 1 December 1913. Mernda operated until the closure of the line beyond Lalor on 29 November 1959, following the electrification of the line as far as Lalor. Epping was re-opened on 29 November 1964, with the electrification of that section of the line. The remaining section of track from Epping to Whittlesea was dismantled in the 1970s, although the former right-of-way remained intact. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks). Australian Railway Historical Society
The Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS) aims to foster an interest in the railways, and record and preserve many facets of railway operations. It had divisions in every state and the Australian Capital Territory, although the ACT division was wound up in 2016, along with the Victorian division in 2020. Since 1967, when each division incorporated, the state divisions have operated as separate entities. Each still trades under the ARHS brand, except in Western Australia, where the division is called Rail Heritage WA. Individual membership exceeds 2,500.
