Redhill MRT Station
Redhill MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West line (EWL) located in Bukit Merah, Singapore. The station is situated along Tiong Bahru Road, at the junction with Jalan Tiong. On the EWL, it's between the Tiong Bahru and Queenstown stations. The station opened on 12 March 1988, when the MRT line extended from Outram Park station to Clementi. History The MRTC awarded Contract 202 for the construction of Redhill and Queenstown MRT stations on 7 February 1985 for $50 million, together with the viaduct from Tiong Bahru Road to Queensway, construction starts in March 1985 for the completion in December 1987. 1 Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. SMRT Trains
SMRT Trains Limited is a rail operator in Singapore and a wholly owned subsidiary of SMRT Corporation. After the privatisation of the MRT operations in 1995, it was originally named Singapore MRT Limited. On 31 December 2001, it was renamed to SMRT Trains Limited, so as not to confuse with another MRT line - North East MRT Line that is under Singapore Bus Services and the bus operations merged from Trans-Island Bus Services. SMRT Corporation is a multi-modal public transport operator in Singapore operating bus and rail services. East West MRT Line
The East West line (EWL) is a high-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line operated by SMRT in Singapore, running from Pasir Ris station in the east to Tuas Link station in the west, with an additional branch between Changi Airport and Tanah Merah stations. It is the second Mass Rapid Transit line to be built in Singapore. The line is the longest on the MRT network (this title will be given to the Cross Island line upon its complete opening by the 2040s), with 35 stations, 8 of which (from Lavender to Tiong Bahru and Changi Airport stations) are underground. Tiong Bahru MRT Station
Tiong Bahru MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West line in Bukit Merah, Singapore. This is the first and last underground station for eastbound and westbound trains respectively. Directly connected to Tiong Bahru Plaza, this station serves the residential precincts of Tiong Bahru and Bukit Ho Swee. Queenstown MRT Station
Queenstown MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West line in Queenstown, Singapore. It is built on a traffic island along Commonwealth Avenue. The station is named after Queen Elizabeth II to mark her coronation in 1952. History The station was opened on 12 March 1988, as part of the extension of the MRT system from Outram Park to Clementi. Half-height platform screen doors were installed in January 2011 and started operations on 28 April 2011 together with Commonwealth. The station was expanded starting mid-2012 and was opened on 23 August 2015 with a new overhead bridge and two new exits, the same day as Commonwealth MRT station. Clementi MRT Station
Clementi MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East-West Line in Clementi, Singapore. The station will become an interchange station with the Cross Island Line in 2032. The tracks between Clementi station and Jurong East MRT station are the second longest between any two stations on the East West Line; the longest being the tracks between Expo MRT station and Changi Airport MRT station. Platform screen doors (PSDs), also known as platform edge doors (PEDs), are used at some train, rapid transit and people mover stations to separate the platform from train tracks, as well as on some bus rapid transit, tram and light rail systems.
