Redesdale, Victoria
Redesdale is a town in central Victoria, Australia. It is located partly in the City of Greater Bendigo local government area and partly in the Shire of Mount Alexander. At the , Redesdale and the surrounding area had a population of 240. History The Post Office opened on 22 March 1865. Redesdale bridge Redesdale is on the opposite bank of the Campaspe River from the town of Mia Mia. The towns are connected by the heritage listed Redesdale bridge, one of the oldest iron lattice-truss bridges in Victoria. The trusses for the bridge were originally imported for a river crossing in suburban Hawthorn in 1859. The ship '' Herald of the Morning'' bringing the trusses to Melbourne caught fire and sank in Hobsons Bay. As a result, the Hawthorn Bridge, connecting Richmond and Hawthorn, was delayed for a couple of years while new trusses were made and shipped out to Australia. Electoral District Of Euroa
The electoral district of Euroa is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2013. It was a new district created due to the abolition of the districts of Seymour, Rodney and Benalla, taking in the areas to the north of these districts toward Shepparton. It includes the towns of Benalla, Violet Town, Euroa, Seymour, Heathcote, Nagambie, Rushworth and other towns in the Campaspe, Strathbogie, Benalla and Mitchell local government areas. Hawthorn is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the City of Boroondara local government area. 1945 Australian National Airways Stinson Crash
On 31 January 1945 a Stinson Model A aircraft departed from Melbourne for a flight of to Kerang, Victoria—the first leg of an Australian National Airways regular scheduled service to Broken Hill, New South Wales. It crashed from Melbourne. All ten occupants were killed in the accident. The aircraft was one of four Stinsons imported in 1936 by Keith Virtue, Airlines of Australia (AoA). Three had now crashed with the loss of 17 lives, and the fourth would not be permitted to fly again. It was determined that the accident was caused by a fatigue (material), fatigue crack in the main spar of the left wing that caused the outer part of the left wing, outboard of the engine nacelle, to separate from the remainder of the aircraft. The expert panel investigating the accident believed this to be the first fatal aircraft accident anywhere in the world directly attributable to metal fatigue. Redesdale Railway Station
Redesdale railway station was the terminus of the Redesdale line. There were sheep yards at the station and a number of mills where firewood was cut and sent to Melbourne. Cream was often sent by rail to the Newstead Butter Factory. It was mostly a goods station but serviced passengers by means of mixed-goods trains and railmotors. In 1920 Redesdale station saw 1,721 outgoing passengers, but this figure fell sharply over the next decade for the dissemination of private vehicles and decreasing population in the area. In 1930, only 41 passengers were carried. Redesdale Junction
Redesdale Junction was a railway station and junction for the Redesdale line near Kyneton in Victoria, Australia. The junction employed a station master, porter, assistant gatekeeper and ganger. A post office operated from the junction until the station master position was abolished in 1930. The junction was an important centre for the small community. In 1918 the station master was given a lavish farewell and a marble clock when it was announced he was being transferred. The Deniliquin railway line (also known as the Echuca railway line) is a broad-gauge railway line serving northwestern Victoria, Australia. Hawthorn Bridge
The Hawthorn Bridge crosses the Yarra River, east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, connecting Bridge Road and Burwood Road. It is the oldest extant bridge over the Yarra River and is one of the oldest metal bridges in Australia. It was constructed in the early wave of major new infrastructure funded by the Victorian gold rush.
