Red Stocking Movement (Denmark)
The Red Stocking Movement ( da, italic=no, Rødstrømpebevægelsen) was a Danish women's rights movement which was established in 1970 and was active until the mid-1980s. Inspired by the Redstockings founded in 1969 in New York City, it brought together left-wing feminists who fought for the same rights as men in terms of equal pay but it also addressed treatment of women in the workplace as well as in the family. Background In the late 1960, a group of young women activists from the Danish Women's Society supported by cultural and university organizations such as Kanonklubben and Kældergruppen, were inspired by the New York Redstockings to set up Denmark's own Red Stocking Movement. Women's Rights
Women's rights are the rights and entitlements claimed for women and girls worldwide. Women's Museum, Aarhus
KØN - Gender Museum Denmark, formerly Kvindemuseet (Women's Museum), is a history museum in Aarhus, Denmark focused on the cultural history of gender and sexuality in Denmark. KØN was originally founded in 1982 as a women's history museum, and is housed in the former Aarhus City Hall, built in 1857. In 2016, the museum's thematic focus was expanded to encompass issues of gender and sexuality in the broadest sense, and as a result of that, the museum's name was changed to KØN (Gender in English) in 2021. As of 2012, the museum operated on a budget of DKK 10 million from state, municipal and private funding. There is a café and bakery at KØN. Activities In addition to its permanent and temporary exhibitions, KØN provides educational outreach programs. Karen Moustgaard Jespersen (born 17 January 1947 in Copenhagen) is a Danish journalist and former politician representing the party Venstre. Early life Born in Copenhagen, she's the daughter of labourer Knud Jespersen and delicatessen owner Anna Jespersen. She attended Nansensgade School from 1954 to1964. Then, she graduated in History and Archaeology at University of Copenhagen. She's married to Ralf Pittelkow. Bente Hansen
Bente Hansen (4 March 1940April 2022) was a Danish writer, editor and women's rights activist who was a prominent supporter of the Danish Red Stocking Movement from 1970. She published a number of books on socialism and the role of women and was coordinating editor of the daily newspaper ''Information'' in the mid-1970s, giving special attention to social movements. Biography Born on 4 March 1940 in Kolding, Hansen was the daughter of the veterinarian Hans Kristian Hansen and Grethe Vera Nornild, a teacher. After matriculating from Vestjsk Gymnasium in Tarm, she spent a year in Brussels, returning to Denmark to study literature at the University of Copenhagen. Drude Dahlerup (born 3 February 1945 in Aarhus, Denmark) is a Danish-Swedish professor of Political Science at Stockholm University. Her main research area is gender and politics. She is an international consultant on the empowerment of women in politics and a specialist on the implementation of gender quota systems. Ulla Dahlerup
Ulla Dahlerup (born 1942) is a Danish journalist, writer and women's rights activist. She was one of the most prominent members of the Danish Red Stocking Movement in the early 1970s, an episode she used as a basis for her 1979 novel ''Søstrene'' (The Sisters). More recently, she has campaigned for the Danish People's Party. Biography Dahlerup was born on 21 March 1942 in Testrup Folk High School south of Aarhus, where her father Erik Dahlerup was principal and her mother Elin Høgsbro Appel, a teacher.
