Red Cap Garage
Red Cap Garage, sometimes abridged as Red Cap, was a gay bar and nightclub that operated in Portland, Oregon from 1987 to 2012. The bar was connected to two others called Boxxes and the Brig. It hosted drag queen shows, live music, special events, and viewing parties. In 2012, the bar was sold and closed after operating for 25 years, and the building which housed Red Cap was gutted to make way for the retail alley known as Union Way. Description and history Red Cap Garage, established in 1987, occupied a building which once housed a taxicab company. The bar faced Stark Street and was connected to two others called Boxxes and the Brig, and the restaurant Fish Grotto. Stark Street
Stark Street is an east-west-running street in Portland, Oregon, in the United States. The street is named after Benjamin Stark, and Southeast Stark Street and Southwest Stark Street are divided by the Willamette River. In late 2017, activists proposed renaming Southwest Stark Street for gay rights activist Harvey Milk, noting that Stark was an unapologetic racist who advocated for slavery. In June 2018, the city council approved renaming that 13-block stretch of Stark, which is entirely within Downtown Portland, downtown, as SW Harvey Milk Street. The name change took effect immediately upon the council's approval of the ordinance enacting it. In Washington County, Oregon, Washington County, West Stark Street acts as the dividing line between the streets prefixed with Northwest and those with Southwest. Joey Arias
Joey Arias is an American artist based in New York City, best known for work as a performance artist, cabaret singer, and drag artist, but also as a published author, comedian, stage persona and film actor. He also goes by the names Joseph Arias and Joe Arias. 1970s and 1980s After high school he sang with the rock band Purlie, which had a 1973 single on Capitol Records, and then had a stint with improvisational comedy group the Groundlings. In 1976 he and his best friend Kim Hastreiter - who would later co-found ''Paper'' magazine - drove across country in a pickup truck and moved to New York City. Arias eventually got a job at the Fiorucci designer clothing store. He and other store staff like Vincent Gallo, performed (danced and modeled clothes) in the shop windows. Burnside Street
Burnside Street is a major thoroughfare of Portland, in the U.S. state of Oregon, and one of a few east–west streets that runs uninterrupted on both sides of the Willamette River. It serves as the dividing line between North Portland and South Portland. Its namesake bridge, Burnside Bridge, is one of the most heavily traversed in Portland. In Gresham between approximately the east 18300 block to Mt.
