Reales Tamarindos Airport
Reales Tamarindos Airport ( es, Aeropuerto Reales Tamarindos) is a closed airport formerly serving Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí Province in Ecuador. The nearest major airport to Portoviejo is Eloy Alfaro International Airport in Manta, to the west. Following the April 2016 earthquake, a tent settlement was set up on the closed runway to provide shelter for displaced households.USAID Earthquake relief

Portoviejo
Portoviejo (), also known as San Gregorio de Portoviejo, is a city in Ecuador, and the capital of the Province of Manabí from the Pacific coast. It is still known as the city of the "Royal Tamarind Trees" due to former Tamarind plantains in the area. Eloy Alfaro International Airport is a combination civilian airport and military air base on the Pacific coast near Manta, a city in the Manabí Province of Ecuador. The airport, also known as Eloy Alfaro Air Base, is named in honor of Eloy Alfaro, a former president of Ecuador. It was inaugurated by the Ecuadorian Air Force on October 24, 1978. It is the fourth-busiest airport in Ecuador. Manta, Ecuador
Manta, also known as San Pablo de Manta, is an Ecuadorian city; cantonal head of the Manta Canton, as well as the largest and most populated city in the Manabí Province. It is the tenth most populous in the country. Manta has existed since Pre-Columbian times. It was a trading post for the Manta, also known as Manteños. 2016 Ecuador Earthquake
The 2016 Ecuador earthquake occurred on April 16 at with a moment magnitude of 7.8 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of VIII (''Severe''). The very large thrust earthquake was centered approximately from the towns of Muisne and Pedernales in a sparsely populated part of the country, and from the capital Quito, where it was felt strongly. Regions of Manta, Pedernales and Portoviejo accounted for over 75 percent of total casualties. Manta's central commercial shopping district, Tarqui, was completely destroyed. Widespread damage was caused across Manabí Province, with structures hundreds of kilometres from the epicenter collapsing. At least 676 people were killed and 16,600 people injured.
