Real Club Celta de Vigo (; ), commonly known as Celta de Vigo or simply Celta, is a Spanish professional Association football, football club based in Vigo, Galicia (Spain), Galicia, that competes in La Liga, the top tier of Spanish football league system, Spanish football. Nicknamed ''Os Celestes'' (The Sky Blues), the club was founded on 1923 as ''Club Celta'', following the merger of two Vigo-based teams. The club's home stadium is Balaídos, which seats 29,000 spectators. The club's name is derived from the Celts, a people who once lived in the region. Its main rival is fellow Galician club Deportivo de La Coruña, Deportivo La Coruña, with whom it contests the Galician derby. Balaídos
The Estadio Municipal de Balaídos (), known as Abanca-Balaídos for sponsorship reasons, is an all-seater stadium located in Vigo, Spain. It is owned by the Vigo's city council, and is the home of La Liga club Celta Vigo. The stadium opened on 30 December 1928 and currently accommodates 18,267 spectators due to renovations. After the renovation, the stadium will be able to accommodate around 32,000 spectators. History Construction In September 1924, a group of local businessmen took the first steps towards the construction of the stadium by buying the 75,000 m2 on which the stadium would be built. The first job they faced was diverting the Lagares river. Two years later, the businessmen founded the Stadium de Balaídos, S.A. company, which would carry out the actual construction work on the new stadium. Campo De Coia
Campo de Coia () was a sporting venue in Coia, Vigo, Spain, which was the home ground of Celta Vigo, and its predecessor Vigo Sporting Club, between 9 February 1908 and December 1928. On 14 May 1922, it hosted the 1922 Copa del Rey Final between FC Barcelona and Real Unión which FC Barcelona easily won with 5–1. The last match ever played at Coia was the first-leg of the quarter-finals of the Copa de España, on December 9, 1928, against Real Sociedad. Which ended in a 2–1 win for the local team. Pichichi Trophy
In Spanish football, the Trofeo Pichichi is awarded by the sports newspaper '' Marca'' to the top goalscorer of each La Liga season. Named after the Athletic Bilbao striker Rafael "Pichichi" Moreno, the trophy has been awarded annually since the 1952–53 season. All top scorers who preceded the award's creation were retroactively named Pichichi winners by ''Marca''. Since the 2014–15 season, the top scorer of the Liga Iberdrola is also awarded the Pichichi Trophy. The Pichichi is not officially recognised by the league's governing body, the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional. Pahiño
Manuel Fernández Fernández (21 January 1923 – 12 June 2012), known as Pahiño, was a Spanish footballer who played as a striker. Over 12 seasons, he played 278 games in La Liga, scoring 211 goals for Celta, Real Madrid and Deportivo. He won one Pichichi Trophy each with the first two clubs. Club career Born in the neighbourhood of San Paio de Navia in Vigo, Province of Pontevedra, Pahiño joined RC Celta de Vigo in 1943, immediately becoming a starter. He only scored four La Liga goals in his first season (from 15 appearances), being relegated. After the team's return to the top flight, Pahiño never scored less than 15 times until his departure. In the 1947–48 campaign, his league-best 21 goals helped them finish a best-ever fourth and reach the final of the Copa del Generalísimo. Francis Cuggy
Francis Cuggy (16 June 1889 – 27 March 1965) was an English footballer who played at right half. He won the Football League championship with Sunderland in 1912–13 and made two appearances for England. Career Sunderland Cuggy was born in Walker, Northumberland and played youth football with Willington Athletic, where he was spotted by scouts from Sunderland. He joined the Roker Park club in March 1909 making his debut in a 3–2 defeat at Aston Villa on 12 February 1913.
