Rayyan
Al Rayyan (; also spelled as ''Ar Rayyan'') is the third-largest municipality in the state of Qatar. Its primary settlement is the city of the same name, which occupies the entire eastern section and largely surrounds Metropolitan Doha and functions as a suburb. The vast expanse of mostly undeveloped lands in the south-west also falls under the municipality's administration. Etymology Similar to many other names given to Qatari settlements and municipalities, Al Rayyan Municipality was named after a geographic feature present in its namesake, the city of Al Rayyan. The city derives its name from the Arabic term "ray", which translates to "irrigation". Al Rayyan (city)
Al-Rayyan ( ar, الريان) is a city in the municipality of its namesake, Al Rayyan, Qatar. The city and its suburbs comprise the largest population center in Qatar outside of Doha proper, immediately to its east. Consisting of all of the districts in the municipality's easternmost section, its western boundary is roughly where the Al Majd Highway runs through the municipality. It is considered a part of the metropolitan Doha area. It is one of the venues for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Zones Of Qatar
In the administrative divisions of Qatar, zones are the second-highest level of government after municipalities of Qatar, municipalities. As of the 2015 census, there were 98 zones. However, several of these zones are not currently in use. Over the years, numerous changes in zones have taken place. For instance, in the 2010 census, Zone 69 was transferred to Al Daayen Municipality, Zones 50 and 58 were added to Ad-Dawhah (municipality), Ad-Dawhah Municipality, and part of Zone 74 was merged with Zone 70 of Al Daayen Municipality. Al-Shahaniya
Al Shahaniya ( ar, الشحانية, Ash Shīḩānīyah) is a municipality (3299 km2) in Qatar, with its municipal seat has a city of the same name (39 km2). Formerly in the municipality of Al Rayyan, but now an independent municipality, the municipal seat was delimited in 1988 by Law No. 22. In 2014, the cabinet ratified a draft amending some provisions to the 1988 law, thereby formalizing Al Shahaniya as Qatar's eighth municipality. Etymology Al-Shahaniya derives its name from a plant known locally as 'sheeh' which was valued for its anti-inflammatory effects. A variation of this name is ''Al-Sheehaniya''. Al Jemailiya
Al Jemailiya ( ar, الجميلية, Al Jumaylīyah) is a town in the municipality of Al-Shahaniya, Qatar. It used to be the seat of Al Jemailiya Municipality before it was incorporated into Al Rayyan Municipality in 2004. In 2014, the town was incorporated into the newly-created Al-Shahaniya Municipality. The town is situated roughly 30 km north-west of the Al-Shahaniya Exit of Dukhan Highway. It has been designated a District Centre for Al-Shahaniya Municipality, meaning that it is being developed to serve the needs of nearby communities, such as Al Suwaihliya. Etymology The name derives from the Arabic word 'jamila', which means 'beauty'. It was so named because of its relative abundance of vegetation. Ad-Dawhah ( ar, الدوحة, ' or ''ad-Dōḥa'', ) is the one of the eight municipalities of Qatar. It is the most populous municipality with a population of 956,457, and is the municipality of Qatar's capital city, Doha. Umm Salal
Umm Salal (; also spelled Umm Slal) is a municipality in the State of Qatar. It contains several historic places, such as Barzan Tower. The municipal headquarters Umm Salal is located in Umm Salal Ali, about 10 km from the coast and 15 km north of Doha, the Qatari capital. Etymology The first word of Umm Salal is Arabic for "mother", while ''salal'' refers to large rocks or stones. Hence, the area's name translates literally to "mother of rocks". Al Wajbah Fort
Al Wajbah Fort is one of the oldest forts in Qatar. Located in the locality of Al Wajbah in Al Rayyan, it is situated 15 km west of Doha. The fort was built in 1893 and was the location of an important battle when the army of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani defeated the Ottoman army in 1893. It was used as the residence of Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani at various periods. The fort's most prominent features are its four watchtowers. It underwent restoration in the later 20th century. Umm Bab
Umm Bab ( ar, أم باب) is a settlement in Qatar, located in the municipality of Al-Shahaniya. It used to be part of the Al Rayyan municipality and before that was administered by Al Jemailiya municipality before the latter was incorporated into Al Rayyan. Umm Bab is well known locally for Al Khraij Beach, which is also known as 'Palm Tree Beach' owing to a small cluster of palm trees situated off the shoreline. Aside from accommodating Qatar's first major non-oil related industry in the form of a cement processing facility which began operation in 1969, there also exists minor oil and gas separation facilities within the settlement. Industrial Area (Doha)
The Doha Industrial Area ( ar, الدوحة المنطقة الصناعية, Ad-Dawḥah al-Minṭaqat aṣ-Ṣinā'yah) is a district of Doha Municipality, Qatar. It was previously a part of the Al Rayyan Municipality, which now geographically separates it from rest of Doha Municipality. The majority of the area's workers reside in adjacent Labour City. A municipal office for Doha Municipality is found in the district. Asian Town Asian Town is a major commercial complex in the Industrial Area.
