Rawiya
Rawi(ya) ( ar, راوية, meaning "female and male teller") is a collective of documentary photographers from the Middle East (West Asia and North Africa). Today its members are Myriam Abdelaziz (New York City), Tamara Abdul Hadi (Beirut), Ghaith Abdul Hadad (Istanbul), Zied Ben Romdhane (Tunis), Laura Boushnak (Sarajevo), Tanya Habjouqa (East Jerusalem), and Tasneem Alsultan (Jubail Jubail ( ar, الجبيل, ''Al Jubayl'') is a city in the Eastern province on the Persian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia, with a total population of 684,531 as of 2021. Laura Boushnak
Laura Boushnak ( ar, لورا بشناق; born 1976) is a Kuwaiti-born Palestinian photographer whose work is focused on women, literacy, and education reform in the Arab world. For her ongoing documentary project "I Read I Write" she photographed girls and women changing their lives with education in Egypt, Yemen, Kuwait, Jordan and Tunisia. Early life Boushnak was born in Kuwait in 1976 to third-generation Palestinian refugee parents. She attended public school there until Palestinian children were not allowed to attend public schools in retaliation for the Palestine Liberation Organization's (PLO) support for Iraq's 1991 Invasion of Kuwait. She then transferred to Fajer al-Sabah School, a private Catholic school. Career After completing a BA in sociology at the Lebanese University in Beirut in 1997, Boushnak began her photography career covering news for the Associated Press agency in Lebanon. Tasneem Alsultan (born October 10, 1985) is a Saudi-American photographer, artist and speaker. Covering stories primarily foanNational Geographicshe is particularly known for her work on gender and social issues in Saudi Arabia and the region. She is a member of the Rawiya women's Middle Eastern photography collective. In 2019, she became Catchlight fellow and was voted the 'Princess Noura University Award for Excellence' in the Arts category. She has also received honorable mention for the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism. East Jerusalem
