Rasmus Meyer
Rasmus Meyer (4 June 1858 – 14 January 1916) was a Norwegian industrialist, mill owner and art collector. He is most commonly associated with the Rasmus Meyer art collection (''Rasmus Meyers samlinger'') in Bergen. Biography Meyer was born in Bergen, Norway to merchant Gerdt Henrich Meyer (1817-1897) and Kaia Wilhelmine Wold (1831-1864). He graduated from Tanks Upper Secondary School in Bergen in 1874. He studied modern mill operations in Germany and trained at his father's mill, Vaksdal mølle in Hordaland. Together with his father, he built a mill at Vaksdal in 1890. After the death of his father in 1897, Meyer took over the management of Vaksdal mølle. After a fire, he had a new mill built in 1899 which was designed by architect Adolph Fischer (1844-1925). Ole Landmark
Ole Landmark (June 15, 1885 – February 7, 1970) was a Norwegian architect. He maintained an architectural firm in Bergen, Norway for nearly 50 years. Biography Ole Døsen Landmark was born in Bergen, Norway. He was the son of Johan Petersberg Landmark (1848-1926) and Monsine Dorothea Døsen (1852-1924). He attended the Trondheim Cathedral School and was educated at the ''Trondhjems Tekniske Læreanstalt'', a predecessor of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He also made several trips to study abroad, including to Sweden, Germany and France. He was employed as an assistant for architects Schak Bull and Einar Oscar Schou. He established his own practice in Bergen in 1910. Landmark let himself be inspired by a diverse set of architectural styles throughout his career, including roccoco, Empire style and functionalism. Troldhaugen
Troldhaugen is the former home of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg and his wife Nina Grieg. Troldhaugen is located in Bergen, Norway and consists of the Edvard Grieg Museum, Grieg's villa, the hut where he composed music, and his and his wife's gravesite. Background The building was designed by Grieg's cousin, the architect Schak Bull. The name comes from ''trold'' meaning troll and ''haug'' from the Old Norse word ''haugr'' meaning hill or knoll. Grieg is reputed to have said that children called the nearby small valley "The Valley of Trolls" and thus gave the name for his building as well. West Norway Museum Of Decorative Art
The West Norway Museum of Decorative Art ( no, Permanenten Vestlandske kunstindustrimuseum), also referred to as KODE 1, is located in Bergen, Norway. It was established in 1887 at the initiative of Johan Bøgh. In 1896 the museum moved into a permanent exhibition building, a Renaissance Revival structure designed by Henry Bucher (1864–1944). The building caught fire during the 1916 Bergen fire but was saved. The collections include older local works in silver, furniture, glass, porcelain, and textiles. Upon its opening, the museum received substantial donations from the merchant Christian Sundt. During the first years, the Bergen Art Gallery occupied the top floor. Lysøen
Lysøen is an island in Bjørnafjorden in Vestland county, Norway. Lysøen is also the site of Villa Lysøen (''Ole Bulls villa på Lysøen''), the home of Norwegian violin-virtuoso and composer Ole Bull until his death in 1880. Villa Lysøen The island was originally the site of a farm established around 1670. The island was bought by Ole Bull in 1872 who constructed the villa. Siljustøl is a museum situated in the borough of Ytrebygda in Bergen, Norway. It was previously the home of composer and musical artist Harald Sæverud and his wife Marie Hvoslef. History Harald Sæverud (1897–1992) and Marie Hvoslef (1900–1982) had received the property as a wedding gift from her mother, Madsella Steen Hvoslef, when they married in 1934. Marie Hvoslef was the daughter of sea captain and ship broker, Frederik Waldemar Hvoslef (1861–1926) and granddaughter of Church of Norway Bishop, Waldemar Hvoslef.
