RandstadRail Stations
RandstadRail () is a light rail network in the Rotterdam–The Hague metropolitan area in the west of the Netherlands that is jointly operated by HTM Personenvervoer (HTM) and Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram (RET). It connects the cities of Rotterdam, The Hague and Zoetermeer, primarily using former train and existing tram tracks. Named after the Randstad conurbation, the light rail network came into operation in 2006, after regular train services on the Hofpleinlijn and Zoetermeer Stadslijn had been discontinued. The system consists of four routes and serves 73 stations, with a total length of approximately . In 2018, it had a daily ridership of around 125,000 passengers. Zoetermeer Stadslijn
Zoetermeer Stadslijn is a light-rail line converted from a former commuter rail line in the Netherlands, between The Hague and Zoetermeer. History Originally, the line was managed by the Dutch Railways (NS). Since June 2006, it has served as a light-rail line, using trams. The light-rail connection, combined with The Hague-Rotterdam line, is called the RandstadRail. After the Oosterheem neighbourhood was built in Zoetermeer, an extra track was added. It does not take the round line, unlike the other routes, but splits between Seghweart and Leidsewallen stations. Lines Since the extra Oosterheem line was added, two lines reach the Zoetermeer Stadslijn and are called line 3 and line 4. Line 3 uses the older track, and line 4, or the Oosterheem line, takes the newer track. In 2020 a new line 34 was added combining the routes of line 3 in The Hague and that of line 4 in Zoetermeer. Meijersplein / Airport is a metro station, as a part of the Rotterdam metro and the regional light rail system RandstadRail, located in Schiebroek, a borough of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. History Construction of Meijersplein station began in January 2008. The station was built to replace Wilgenplas station, located approximately north. Wilgenplas was served by railway trains on the Hofplein line before that line was converted for use by metro trains and the station was temporarily kept in service after this conversion took place in 2006. In May 2010 construction of Meijersplein station completed and Wilgenplas station was duly closed down on 12 May. Meijersplein station was opened on 17 May and it is now being served by metro trains of line E. Rodenrijs is a metro station, as a part of the Rotterdam metro and the regional light rail system RandstadRail, located in Rodenrijs, the Netherlands. History The railway station opened here on 1 October 1908 as part of the Hofpleinlijn. As the nearby station Berkel was closed in 1965, the name of the Rodenrijs station was changed into Berkel en Rodenrijs. This station was closed on 3 June 2006 for refurbishment work to a RandstadRail metro station. The RandstadRail station opened on 10 September 2006 for the RET Erasmuslijn metro service, currently line E, now under the name of Rodenrijs again, as at the same time the new station Berkel Westpolder was opened.
