Random Hearts
''Random Hearts'' is a 1999 American romantic drama film directed by Sydney Pollack and starring Harrison Ford and Kristin Scott Thomas. Based on the 1984 novel of the same name by Warren Adler, the film is about a police officer and a Congresswoman who discover that their spouses were having an affair prior to being killed in an air disaster. Plot Sergeant William "Dutch" Van Den Broeck is a police sergeant in the Internal Affairs Division of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, working on a case involving a crooked detective. He is married to a fashion editor. Kay Chandler is a Congresswoman running for re-election. She is married to a lawyer and has a teenage daughter. A Boeing 737-300 bound for Miami crashes, and everyone on board is killed. Sydney Pollack
Sydney Irwin Pollack (July 1, 1934 – May 26, 2008) was an American film director, producer and actor. Pollack directed more than 20 films and 10 television shows, acted in over 30 movies or shows and produced over 44 films. For his film ''Out of Africa'' (1985), Pollack won the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture. He was also nominated for Best Director Oscars for '' They Shoot Horses, Don't They?'' (1969) and ''Tootsie'' (1982). Mirage Enterprises was an American film production company founded by director and producer Sydney Pollack in 1985. History Sydney Pollack was known for being a director and occasional actor. He began producing his own films in the 1970s, then started producing projects for other directors as well. He began his Mirage Enterprises production company in 1985, right before the release of ''Out of Africa''. A pilot, Pollack named the studio after an airplane. He added director Anthony Minghella as partner in 2001.
