Randall Amster
Randall Jay Amster (born September 5, 1965) is an American author, activist, and educator in areas including peace, ecology, homelessness, and anarchism. He is the co-director of the Environmental Studies program at Georgetown University, and writes for outlets ranging from academic journals to online news media. Amster has worked as an attorney, judicial clerk, university lecturer and academic administrator during his professional career. Career In 2001, Amster was hired to teach Peace Studies at Prescott College in Arizona, where he worked as a faculty member and program chair until June 2013. In 2008, he began serving as the Executive Director of the Peace and Justice Studies Association (PJSA). He is the editor of the association’s newsletter, ''The Peace Chronicle'', among other duties. Prescott College
Prescott College is a private college in Prescott, Arizona. History In 1965, the Ford Foundation brought together a group of educators from around the United States. Prescott College was the result of this gathering. The college was originally built in 1966 on outside of Prescott, Arizona. In 1974 the college went bankrupt due to poor fiscal management and the loss of anticipated donor funds. A core of determined faculty and students refused to see the college fold, and after a series of emergency meetings, formed the Prescott Center for Alternative Education. This earned the school national publicity as "The College That Wouldn't Die." During the spring semester of 1975, classes were held in the basement of the historic Hassayampa Hotel in downtown Prescott, Arizona, as well as in the homes of both faculty and students. Jeff Ferrell
Jeffrey Alan Ferrell (born November 23, 1990) is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers in 2015 and 2017. Career Detroit Tigers Ferrell attended Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, and played collegiately at Pitt Community College. The Detroit Tigers selected Ferrell in the 26th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. In 2015, Ferrell saved 12 games for the Double-A Erie SeaWolves, while allowing five runs on 21 hits over 27 innings with four walks and 35 strikeouts. Nonviolence
Nonviolence is the personal practice of not causing harm to others under any condition. It may come from the belief that hurting people, animals and/or the environment is unnecessary to achieve an outcome and it may refer to a general philosophy of abstention from violence. It may be based on moral, Religion, religious or spiritual principles, or the reasons for it may be strategic or pragmatic. Failure to distinguish between the two types of nonviolent approaches can lead to distortion in the concept's meaning and effectiveness, which can subsequently result in confusion among the audience. Although both principled and pragmatic nonviolent approaches preach for nonviolence, they may have distinct motives, goals, philosophies, and techniques. A sit-in or sit-down is a form of direct action that involves one or more people occupying an area for a protest, often to promote political, social, or economic change. The protestors gather conspicuously in a space or building, refusing to move unless their demands are met. The often clearly visible demonstrations are intended to spread awareness among the public, or disrupt the goings-on of the protested organisation. Lunch counter sit-ins were a nonviolent form of protest used to oppose segregation during the civil rights movement, and often provoked heckling and violence from those opposed to their message. Federal judges are judges appointed by a federal level of government as opposed to the state/provincial/local level. United States A US federal judge is appointed by the US President and confirmed by the US Senate in accordance with Article 3 of the Constitution. The US Supreme Court currently has 9 justices. The judges of 13 circuit courts of appeals and 94 federal circuit courts are also appointed by the president and are therefore also "federal judges" (or Article III judges). Federal judges in the United States are appointed for life (impeachment through the US Congress is possible).
