Ranamok Glass Prize
The Ranamok Glass Prize is an annual award given to glass artists who live in Australia or New Zealand. The award was established in 1994 by Andy Plummer and Maureen Cahill in order to promote glass art to the public. Plummer and Cahill announced that 2014 would be the final year of the prize. History Andy Plummer, a coal industry executive and glass artist, and Maureen Cahill, a gallerist and glass artist, created the award in order to recognize contemporary glass artists in Australia and New Zealand. The award was originally known as the RFC Glass Prize. The prize is open to artists of any level, and is considered the most prestigious glass award in Australia and New Zealand. An annual showcase of finalists is held, and the winner receives a cash prize and the publicity resulting from a major multi-venue exhibition. Studio Glass
Studio glass is the modern use of glass as an artistic medium to produce sculptures or three-dimensional artworks. The glass objects created are intended to make a sculptural or decorative statement. Though usage varies, the term is properly restricted to glass made as art in small workshops, typically with the personal involvement of the artist who designed the piece. This is in contrast to art glass, made by craftsmen in factories, and glass art, covering the whole range of glass with artistic interest made throughout history. Both art glass and studio glass originate in the 19th century, and the terms compare with studio pottery and art pottery, but in glass the term "studio glass" is mostly used for work made in the period beginning in the 1960s with a major revival in interest in artistic glassmaking. Mel Douglas (born 1978) is an Australian glass artist living and working in her studio located in the Australian capital of Canberra. Biography Douglas received her BA (Visual), Glass Workshop, from the Australian National University in 2000. Cobi Cockburn is an Australian glass artist. Her works are held in the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Palm Springs Art Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass, New York. Biography Cockburn is from New South Wales and completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (2000) and a Master of Fine Arts (2016) at Sydney College of the Arts.
