Ramsgate Athletic F.C.
Ramsgate Football Club are a football team based in Ramsgate, Kent, England. They are currently members of the and play at the Southwood Stadium. The main local rivals of the club are Margate who are situated just 4 miles away. When the two teams meet, it is known as the Thanet derby. History The earliest incarnation of Ramsgate FC had played since at least 1886 but folded in 1924, with local rivals Ramsgate Glenville taking over their Southwood Stadium. Glenville did not reform after World War II and a new club dubbed Ramsgate Athletic took over Southwood. The club retained the Athletic name until 1972. Athletic played in the original incarnation of the Kent League from their formation until the collapse of the league in 1959. This was the club's best period for nearly 50 years, with two consecutive league titles, several county cups, and a run to the first round of the FA Cup. Ramsgate
Ramsgate is a seaside resort, seaside town in the district of Thanet District, Thanet in east Kent, England. It was one of the great English seaside towns of the 19th century. In 2001 it had a population of about 40,000. In 2011, according to the Census, there was a population of 40,408. Ramsgate's main attraction is its coastline, and its main industries are tourism and fishing. Kent Senior Cup
The Kent Senior Cup is an English football competition played between senior clubs in the county of Kent. It is administered by the Kent County Football Association. History The Kent Badge preceded the Kent Senior Cup, and was won in its three-year history by Chatham. This competition was replaced by the Kent Senior Cup in 1889. Between 1894 and 1897 the cup was awarded to the Kent League champions. Past winners of the Kent Senior Cup include Royal Arsenal (now Arsenal) in 1889–90, and Gillingham in 1945–46 and 1947–48; the two sides are now members of the Premier League and Football League respectively. The 2013–14 Kent Senior Cup marked the 125th anniversary year of the competition, with the first match having been played in 1889. Lloyd Blackman
Lloyd Jason Blackman (born 24 September 1983) is an English retired semi-professional footballer who is assistant manager of Tonbridge Angels. As a player, he played as a forward in the Football League for Brentford and after his release in 2004, he embarked on a nomadic career in non-League football. He began coaching while still a player and managed Ramsgate and Whitstable Town. Mark Weatherly
Colin Mark Weatherly (born 18 January 1958) is an English retired footballer. He spent his entire professional career with Gillingham, where he played in 457 Football League matches, a club record for an outfield player. Career Although born in Kent Weatherly was on the books of Coventry City as a schoolboy but was not retained. He also played for non-league Canterbury City from the age of 15. After his release from Coventry, he was signed by Gillingham as an apprentice and soon found himself making his first-team debut. At just 16 years 218 days he was at the time the youngest player ever to play for the club. Originally a striker, he was switched to the defence in 1978 and played there or in midfield for the remainder of his career, which saw him play in over 500 matches in all competitions for the Kent club and win the club's Player of the Year award on two occasions. Southern Counties East Football League
The Southern Counties East Football League is an English football league established in 1966, which has teams based in Kent and Southeast London. Until 2013, it was known as the Kent League. There was a previous Kent League, that existed from 1894 to 1959. History The first Kent League was formed in 1894 and folded in 1959. Despite many of the same clubs having spells in membership, there is no direct connection between the two competitions. The current incarnation of the league was formed in 1966 as the Kent Premier League (changing to Kent Football League in 1968), and in its early years many of its members were reserve sides of Southern League teams. Gradually, the reserve sides were all shifted down into the lower divisions. Bob Harrop
Robert Harrop (25 August 1936 – 8 November 2007) was an English footballer who played as a centre back. He was born in Manchester and played in the Football League for Manchester United and Tranmere Rovers. Harrop joined Manchester United as a youth team player in 1953 and was an FA Youth Cup winner in 1954 and later graduated to the reserve side after turning professional. His first team debut came on 5 March 1958, a month after the Munich air disaster – where eight players were killed and two never played again due to injury, while several other players were still recovering from their injuries. His debut was against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup fifth round replay. He made a further five appearances that season, and five more in 1958–59, but never became a regular player and was sold to Tranmere Rovers for £4,000 in 1961. Mark Lovell (footballer)
Mark Lovell (born 16 July 1983 in Beckenham) is an English footballer. He briefly played professionally for Gillingham. He is the son of former Welsh international striker Steve Lovell, and the grandson of former professional footballer Alan Lovell. Playing career Lovell joined Gillingham, one of his father's old clubs, as a trainee in 1999 and was soon a regular for the club's reserve team, prompting Gillingham to sign him to a professional contract when he was still 17 years old. He made his debut for the Gills' first team in a match against Watford in May 2001. The following season Lovell found himself unable to gain a foothold in the first team squad and was loaned out to St. Leonards. Dadigildo Portulez Carvalho Fernandes Cravid (born 25 February 1997), known as just Gil Carvalho, is a Santomean footballer who currently plays for Ramsgate and the São Tomé and Príncipe national team. Club career Carvalho began his career in the academy of Tonbridge Angels FC. By 2017 he had also made five or six league appearances for the first team.
