Ramachandran Ramesh
Ramachandran Ramesh (born 20 April 1976), also known as R. B. Ramesh, is an Indian chess grandmaster from Chennai who won the 2002 British Championship and the 2007 Commonwealth Championship. He is married to WGM Aarthie Ramaswamy. They are India's first Grandmaster couple. He started Chess Gurukul, Chess Academy in Chennai to train young players in 2008. Chess
Chess is a board game for two players, called White and Black, each controlling an army of chess pieces in their color, with the objective to checkmate the opponent's king. Grandmaster (chess)
Grandmaster (GM) is a title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally it has been revoked for cheating. The title of Grandmaster, along with the lesser FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and FIDE Master (FM), is open to all players regardless of gender. The great majority of grandmasters are men, but 40 women have been awarded the GM title as of 2022, out of a total of about 2000 grandmasters. Since about the year 2000, most of the top 10 women have held the GM title. There is also a Woman Grandmaster title with lower requirements awarded only to women. British Chess Championship
The British Chess Championships are organised by the English Chess Federation. The main tournament incorporates the British Championship, the English Chess Championships and the British Women's Chess Championship so it is possible, although it has never happened, for one player to win all three titles in the same competition. The English Women's Chess Championship was also incorporated into this event but did not take place in 2015 and was held as a separate competition in 2016. Since 1923 there have been sections for juniors, and since 1982 there has been an over-sixty championship. The championship venue usually changes every year and has been held in different locations in England, Scotland, Wales and once on the Isle of Man. The Commonwealth Chess Championship is a gathering of chess players from Commonwealth countries. Winners : History A championship was planned for New Zealand in 1949, but it was canceled because the British Chess Federation was unable to attend. Oxford 1950 In 1950 an informal all-play-all championship was held as the strongest players of Canada (Daniel Yanofsky), New Zealand ( Robert Wade), and South Africa (Wolfgang Heidenfeld) were all in England. The field was rounded out with a player from England, Scotland, and a promising Australian. William Fairhurst (Scotland) won the unofficial championship held in Oxford. Woman Grandmaster
FIDE titles are awarded by the international chess governing body FIDE (''Fédération Internationale des Échecs'') for outstanding performance. The highest such title is Grandmaster (GM). Titles generally require a combination of Elo rating and norms (performance benchmarks in competitions including other titled players). Aarthie Ramaswamy
Aarthie Ramaswamy (born 28 June 1981) is a chess player from India. She was awarded the title Woman Grandmaster (WGM) by FIDE in 2003. In 1993, Ramaswamy won the India under-12 girls championship. In 1995, she won the under-14 and under-16 girls championships. In 1998 and 1999, she won the under-18 girls national title. Also in 1999, Ramaswamy won the Girls U18 section of the World Youth Championships, held in Oropesa del Mar, Spain. In 2001, she competed in the Women's World Chess Championship. Ramaswamy won the Indian women's championship in 2003, edging out S. Bharath Subramaniyam
Bharath Subramaniyam (born 17 October 2007) is an Indian chess player holding the title of grandmaster. He learned chess at the age of five years from his father Harishankkar. Starting from 2014, he attended the "Chess Gurukul" school in Chennai, having GM Ramachandran Ramesh as his main teacher. From, March 2019, Bharath also started attending training sessions by GM Alexander Goloshchapov. The sessions were useful in improving his positional play and helped him to reach his norms faster. In January 2020, Bharath was selected for a special training camp sponsored by Microsense networks conducted by former World champion GM Vladimir Kramnik and former World chess challenger GM Boris Gelfand. Bharath is currently training with Indian chess Grandmaster Shyam Sundar. He completed his 3rd IM norm in June 2019, at the age of 11 years and 8 months. World Chess Championship 2013
The World Chess Championship 2013 was a match between reigning world champion Viswanathan Anand and challenger Magnus Carlsen, to determine the 2013 World Chess Champion. It was held from 7 to 25 November 2013 in Chennai, India, under the auspices of FIDE (the World Chess Federation). Carlsen won the match 6½–3½ after ten of the twelve scheduled games, becoming the new world chess champion. This was heralded by Garry Kasparov and others as the start of a new era in chess, with Carlsen being the first champion to have developed his game in the age of super-strong chess computers.
