Railway Map Of Greece
Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport that transfers passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails, which are incorporated in tracks. In contrast to road transport, where the vehicles run on a prepared flat surface, rail vehicles ( rolling stock) are directionally guided by the tracks on which they run. Tracks usually consist of steel rails, installed on sleepers (ties) set in ballast, on which the rolling stock, usually fitted with metal wheels, moves. Other variations are also possible, such as "slab track", in which the rails are fastened to a concrete foundation resting on a prepared subsurface. Rolling stock in a rail transport system generally encounters lower frictional resistance than rubber-tyred road vehicles, so passenger and freight cars (carriages and wagons) can be coupled into longer trains. Leianokladi–Stylida Railway
The Leianokladi to Stylida railway or Proastiakos Lamia (Lamia Suburban Railway) is an unelectrificated standard gauge single-track railway regional railway line that connects Leianokladi in Central Greece, with Lamia and Stylida. The route is covered in 33 minutes. History The line opened 1905. In 1920 the line became part of the Hellenic State Railways. In 1971, the Hellenic State Railways was reorganised into the OSE taking over responsibilities for most for Greece's rail infrastructure. However, by 1970 the regular passenger itineraries from Piraeus and Athens to Lamia and Stylida were suspended and only the periodic summer excursion itineraries for the transport of bathers to the beach of Agia Marina and the commercial itineraries remained. In 1991 the line Athens Leianokladi-Lamia-Stylida is reopened with passenger trains and freight services. Imathia
Imathia ( el, Ημαθία ) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Central Macedonia, within the geographic region of Macedonia. The capital of Imathia is the city of Veroia. Administration The regional unit Imathia is subdivided into 3 municipalities. Alexandreia Railway Station
The Alexandreia railway station ( el, Σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός Αλεξάνδρεια, Sidirodromikós stathmós Aleksándreia) is the railway station of Skydra in Central Macedonia, Greece. The station is located near the centre of the settlement, on the Thessaloniki–Bitola railway, and is severed by both Local and by Thessaloniki Suburban services or ''Proastiakos''. Thessaloniki–Alexandroupoli Railway
The Thessaloniki–Alexandroupoli railway is an about 440 km long railway in northern Greece connecting the Central Macedonian city of Thessaloniki with Alexandroupoli in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, via Serres. There is a connection towards Sofia at the Strymonas station. This railway was built in 1896 by The Compagnie du Chemin de Fer Ottoman Jonction Salonique-Constantinople (JSC). , there is regular passenger service twice-daily to Alexandroupoli with connecting services to Dikaia, as well as international services to Sofia, to Belgrade via Skopje. The international service to Istanbul ("Friendship Express") (as of 2023) remains suspended. Pieria (regional Unit)
Pieria ( el, Πιερία) is one of the regional units of Greece located in the southern part of the Region of Central Macedonia, within the historical province of Macedonia. Its capital is the town of Katerini.The name Pieria originates from the ancient Pieres tribe. In Pieria, there are many sites of archeological interest, such as Dion, Pydna, Leivithra and Platamonas. Pieria contains Mount Pierus, from which Hermes takes flight in order to visit Calypso, and is the home of Orpheus, the Muses, and contains the Pierian Spring. Aiginio Railway Station
Aiginio railway station ( el, Σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός Αιγίνιο, Sidirodromikos stathmos Aiginio) is a railway station in Korinos, Central Macedonia, Greece. Located in a residential area east of the centre of the town, it opened in 2000. It is served by regional trains between Thessaloniki, Kalambaka, Palaiofarsalos and by the Suburban services for Thessaloniki, Litochoro and Larissa. Achaea
Achaea () or Achaia (), sometimes transliterated from Greek as Akhaia (, ''Akhaïa'' ), is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Greece and is situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The capital is Patras which is the third largest city in Greece. Geography Achaea is bordered by Elis to the west and southwest, Arcadia to the south, and Corinthia to the east and southeast. The Gulf of Corinth lies to its northeast, and the Gulf of Patras to its northwest. The mountain Panachaiko (1926 m), though not the highest of Achaea, dominates the coastal area near Patras. Boeotia
Boeotia ( ), sometimes Latinized as Boiotia or Beotia ( el, Βοιωτία; modern: ; ancient: ), formerly known as Cadmeis, is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Central Greece. Its capital is Livadeia, and its largest city is Thebes. Boeotia was also a region of ancient Greece, from before the 6th century BC. Geography Boeotia lies to the north of the eastern part of the Gulf of Corinth. It also has a short coastline on the Gulf of Euboea. Patras–Kyparissia Railway
The Patras–Kyparissia railway ( el, Σιδηροδρομική Γραμμή Πάτρας - Κυπαρισσίας) is a railway line of the OSE in Achaea, Elis, and Messenia, southwestern Greece. This 163 km long single track metre-gauge line connects Patras, Pyrgos and Kyparissia. Connections The Patras–Kyparissia railway is connected to the following other railway lines: *at Patras to the Piraeus–Patras railway *at Kavasila to the (abandoned) Kavasila–Kyllini railway *at Pyrgos to Katakolo *at Alfeios to Olympia *at Kalo Nero to Zevgolateio There was a ferry connection from Patras to Kryoneri, the southern terminus of the (now abandoned) railway line to Missolonghi and Agrinio.
