Ragged School F.C.
Ragged School Football Club is an amateur Welsh football team based in Swansea, Wales. They play in the . History Founded in 1949 by Glyn Cole and named after Swansea's Ragged School, the team has seen national success, winning the FAW Trophy four times - the last time in the 2008–09 season when they beat Penycae. After Cole's death the club was run by his nephew, Maurice Hogg, for over fifty years. They have also been winners of the West Wales Cup seven times. Additionally they are considered one of the most successful teams in the Swansea Senior Football League, having won the competition's senior cup 14 times and having been crowned champions of the league's top division nine times. The club withdrew from Division One of the Swansea Senior League in 2015–16 season and rejoined the league in Division Three for the 2017–18 season, finishing as divisional runners-up and gaining promotion to Division Two. Ragged School
Ragged schools were charitable organisations dedicated to the free education of destitute children in 19th century Britain. The schools were developed in working-class districts. Ragged schools were intended for society's most destitute children. Such children, it was argued, were often excluded from Sunday School education because of their unkempt appearance and often challenging behaviour. The London Ragged School Union was established in April 1844 to combine resources in the city, providing free education, food, clothing, lodging and other home missionary services for poor children. Although the London Ragged School Union did not extend beyond the metropolis, its publications and pamphlets helped spread ragged school ideals across the country. They were phased out by the final decades of the 19th century. FAW Trophy
The FAW Welsh Trophy is a knock-out football competition contested annually by teams from Wales and the borders. The Football Association of Wales is the organising body of this competition, which has been run every year since its inception in 1890–91 (except during the two World Wars) for clubs competing in the lower echelons of the Welsh football league system. It was known as the Welsh Junior Cup until 1902, when it became the Welsh Amateur Cup, a title it held until 1974, when it was renamed the FAW Intermediate Cup. The West Wales Intermediate Challenge Cup is the regional knock-out competition for clubs beneath the umbrella of the West Wales Football Association, at the level of Tier 4 and below of the Welsh Football Pyramid in South West Wales. The tournament invites clubs typically from the top divisions of the Carmarthenshire League, Neath & District League, Pembrokeshire League and Swansea Senior League. The Swansea Senior Association Football League or Swansea Senior League, is a league competition featuring non-professional association football clubs in the area of Swansea, south Wales. The league consists of seven divisions, three for "first teams" and four for "reserves" and lower teams. The top division, Division One is just below West Wales Premier League, and therefore sits at level 5 of the Welsh football pyramid.
