Rafic Charaf
Rafic Charaf (Baalbek, Lebanon, 1932 – Beirut 2003) was a Lebanese painter. He studied at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts, Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts ALBA and, in 1955, obtained a scholarship from the Spanish government and went at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid before returning to Lebanon. Life and work Grown up in a poor neighborhood, Charaf pioneered an expressionistic style of painting, covering a range of themes including contemporary political issues, social struggles of his native Baalbek and folk art and poetry. Charaf appeared as a visionary and pessimistic artist when, in the early 1960s, he depicted lugubrious landscapes, often outfitted by wires and dead trees. He always showed social and political involvement in his art, so that when the Lebanese Civil War broke up, he produced posters devoted to the National Resistance. Rafic Bahaa El Deen Al Hariri ( ar, رفيق بهاء الدين الحريري; 1 November 1944 – 14 February 2005) was a Lebanese business tycoon and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Lebanon from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2000 until his resignation on . Hariri headed five cabinets during his tenure. He was widely credited for his role in constructing the Taif Agreement that ended the 15-year Lebanese Civil War. He also played a huge role in reconstructing the Lebanese capital, Beirut. He was the first post-civil war prime minister and the most influential and wealthiest Lebanese politician until his assassination. Hariri was assassinated on 14 February 2005 by a suicide truck bomb in Beirut. Rafic Nahra (born 27 January 1959) is a Lebanese-French priest of the Catholic Church, who serves as patriarchal vicar for Israel and auxiliary bishop of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. From 2017 to 2021, he served as patriarchal vicar for the Hebrew Catholics. He has been patriarchal vicar for Israel, based in Nazareth, since August 2021, and auxiliary bishop of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem since 11 March 2022. Mayan Rafic ( he, מעיין רפיח, born 12 May 1995) is an Israeli windsurfer who won gold in the Techno 293 class competition at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and silver in the Youth Men competition at the 2013 RS:X Windsurfing Youth World Championships. Windsurfing career Rafic was born in Herzliya. Rafah began competing in international competitions at the age of 13 on a Techno 293 surfboard. In 2008, he reached eighth place in the Techno 293 Under 15 World Championships and finish ninth in this competition a year later. In 2010, he won the gold medal at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
