Raffaello Ducceschi
Raffaello Ducceschi (born 25 February 1962) is a former Italian race walker, who took fifth and eighth place in two Olympic Games. Biography Ducceschi won one medal, at individual level, at the International athletics competitions. He participated at two Summer Olympic Games (1984 and 1988), he has 11 caps in national team from 1983 to 1989. Twice a finalist in the 50 kilometres race walk at the Olympic Games (in Los Angeles 1984 and Seoul 1988), his best result was the 1987 World Championships in Athletics, when though struck with dysentery during the race and being forced to stop along the roadside several times, he was able to reach the finish line, taking fourth place. He was trained from 1980 to 1984 by Roberto Vanzillotta, 1985–1986 by Antonio La Torre, the first half of 1987 by Peter Pastorini, and from May 1987 to all of 1988 by Sandro Damilano in Saluzzo with Maurizio and Giorgio Damilano. 1984 Summer Olympics
The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. 50 Km Walk
The 50 kilometre race walk was an Olympic athletics event that first appeared in 1932 and made its final Olympic appearance in 2021. The racewalking event is competed as a road race. Athletes must always keep in contact with the ground and the supporting leg must remain straight until the raised leg passes it. 50 kilometres is approximately 31 miles. The 50 kilometres race walk was dropped from the Olympic program after the 2020 Tokyo Games in 2021 and will be replaced by a mixed team race in order to achieve gender equality. Power walking or speed walking is the act of walking with a speed at the upper end of the natural range for the walking gait, typically 7 to 9 km/h (4.5 to 5.5 mph). The Saluzzo Race Walking School (''Scuola del Cammino di Saluzzo'') is an international race walking school in Saluzzo, Piedmont, Italy. History The school was established in 2002 by the brothers Giorgio, Maurizio and Sandro Damilano. Former champion race walkers Maurizio and Giorgio trained for Olympic Games and other championships on the roads around Saluzzo. Sandro Damilano is an athletics coach and Director of the school.
