Radio Reloj
Radio Reloj (Spanish for ''Radio Clock'') is an internationally broadcast Spanish-language radio station, located in Cuba. It currently carries an all-news format. The station is noted for the sound of a ticking clock in the background, and announcing the time every minute of broadcast. Overview The station is heard on various AM frequencies throughout the country and also on certain FM frequencies, such as 101.5 FM in Havana. Listenership outside of Cuba From its inception in 1947 until the Internet era, Radio Reloj was generally available only to listeners in Cuba. However, on occasion during a clear night (especially during the winter months), Radio Reloj could be heard in adjacent countries, and it generally has a good signal in areas immediately north of Havana such as the Florida Keys (from Islamorada to Key West) and some parts of Southwest Florida. Islamorada
Islamorada (also sometimes Islas Morada) is an incorporated village in Monroe County, Florida. It is located directly between Miami and Key West on five islands— Tea Table Key, Lower Matecumbe Key, Upper Matecumbe Key, Windley Key and Plantation Key—in the Florida Keys. History The name ''Islamorada'' (), "purple island," came from early Spanish explorers in the area. Islamorada was the location of one of the stations of the Overseas Railroad. Hispasat is the operating company for a number of Spanish communications satellites that cover the Americas, Europe and North Africa from orbital positions 30.0° West and 61.0° West. DXing
DXing is the hobby of receiving and identifying distant radio or television signals, or making two-way radio contact with distant stations in amateur radio, citizens' band radio or other two-way radio communications. Many DXers also attempt to obtain written verifications of reception or contact, sometimes referred to as " QSLs" or "veries". The name of the hobby comes from DX, telegraphic shorthand for "distance" or "distant". The practice of DXing arose during the early days of radio broadcasting. Listeners would mail "reception reports" to radio broadcasting stations in hopes of getting a written acknowledgement or a QSL card that served to officially verify they had heard a distant station.
