Racing Luck (1924 Film)
''Racing Luck'' is a 1924 American silent comedy film directed by Herman C. Raymaker and starring Monty Banks, Helen Ferguson, and Lionel Belmore. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Mario, a young Italian immigrant, comes to New York City and falls in love with a Rosina, a young woman. They become dancing partners in a cafe. Mario raises a drink to toast the Statue of Liberty but a policeman stops him, the Volstead Act having established the prohibition of alcoholic drinks. Gang leader Tony Mora is jealous of him and gives Mario some rough moments, but he whips several of Tony's crowd and knocks out the leader. Having learned to drive a Ford, he is induced to enter a road race. Conspirators lock his racing car in high gear and it has no brakes. Martha Franklin
Martha Minerva Franklin (October 29, 1870 – September 26, 1968) was one of the first people to campaign for racial equality in nursing. Early life Franklin was born in New Milford, Connecticut, to Mary E. Gauson and Henry J. Franklin. She had a sister, Florence, and a brother, William. Her father had been a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War. Franklin graduated from Meriden Public High School in 1890 as one of few African American members of her class. In 1895, she moved to Philadelphia to attend the Women's Hospital Training School for Nurses. She graduated in December 1897 and as the only African American member of her graduating class. After graduation, Franklin returned to Meriden and began doing in-home private duty nursing. CINEMATEK (Dutch: Koninklijk Belgisch Filmarchief; French: Cinémathèque royale de Belgique; English: Royal Belgian Film Archive) is a film archive in Brussels, Belgium. The archive was established in 1938 under the name Royal Belgian Film Archive by Henri Storck, André Thirifays, and Piet Vermeylen. Its collection include works on film by Man Ray, Duchamp and Léger. As of 2018, the archive held 47,726 films and over a hundred-thousand film materials, with over eight thousand of the items originating from Belgium. The challenges associated with managing the collection were discussed in a 2001 article by Gabrielle Claes who served as director of the archive from 1988 until 2011. Cinematek led the organization of the EXPRMNTL film festival which was run four times: 1949, 1958, 1963, 1967, and 1974. Al Thompson (September 21, 1884 – March 1, 1960) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 170 films between 1916 and 1958. Well known in the industry for performing the more difficult stunts, he kept busy as a stunt double for Andy Clyde in the latter's many movies and also appeared in many ''Three Stooges'' shorts.
