Rachel Ros (born 11 August 1942 in Cavaillon, Vaucluse) is a French singer best known in Europe for representing France in the Eurovision Song Contest 1964. Biography Before starting her musical career, she worked as a lift girl in Paris and in the mail administration of a record label. She entered a singing competition organised by Mireille Hartuch who had invited Rachel to her televised show . She went on to sign a contract with the Barclay Records label, and released her first (45 rpm) recording entitled "" in 1963. In 1964, she represented France in the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen with her entry called "", written by Pierre Cour and André Popp, which was her greatest hit. Guy Mardel
Guy Mardel (, born Mardochée Elkoubi; 30 June 1944, in Oran, French Algeria) is a French singer, best known for his participation in the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest. Mardel lived his first 15 years in Algeria before moving to France in 1959. He later enrolled in law school, while singing recreationally with a jazz band. He signed a contract with AZ Records in 1963 and released two singles before being chosen internally by channel ORTF in 1965 to represent France in that year's Eurovision Song Contest with the song " N'avoue jamais" ("Never admit"). At the contest, held in Naples on 20 March, "N'avoue jamais" finished in third place of the 18 entries. Mardel was unable to capitalise on his Eurovision success, despite releasing many singles until the 1980s. In the 1970s he moved into record production, setting up his own record label, MM, in 1977. "Elle était si jolie" (; "She Was So Pretty") was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1963, performed in French by Alain Barrière. The song was performed eleventh on the night (following 's Esther Ofarim with " T'en va pas" and preceding 's José Guardiola with " Algo prodigioso"). At the close of voting, it had received 25 points, placing 5th in a field of 16. The song is a ballad, with Barrière reminiscing about a girl he used to know and how pretty she was. Her beauty was apparently so much that he could not love her. Barrière also recorded the song in German and Italian, as "Du gingst fort ohne Abschied" and "Era troppo carina" respectively. The song was well received in Latin America, particularly in Chile. It was succeeded as French representative at the 1964 contest by Rachel with " Le Chant de Mallory". Alain Barrière
Alain Barrière (; born Alain Bellec; 18 November 1935 – 18 December 2019) was a French singer, who was active from the 1950s until his death and was known for participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 1963. Early life After growing up in a small town on the coast of Brittany, in 1955 Barrière enrolled in the École nationale supérieure d'arts et métiers in Angers. As a student he bought a guitar and started to write songs. After graduating in engineering in 1960, he moved to Paris to take up employment, and started to perform in the evenings at small clubs around the capital. He won a song contest in 1961 with the self-penned song "Cathy"; his style was chanson-based with no concession to the burgeoning yé-yé scene, but nonetheless he was soon signed to a recording contract and started to release singles regularly, enabling him to give up his job and make at least a modest living from music. Vasiliki Papathanasiou ( el, Βασιλική Παπαθανασίου; born 23 August 1949), generally known as Vicky Leandros ( el, Βίκυ Λέανδρος, links=no), is a Greek singer living in Germany.
