Racetrack (film)
''Racetrack'' is a 1933 American pre-Code drama directed by James Cruze and starring Leo Carrillo, Junior Coughlan and Kay Hammond. This film is now considered lost Plot Horse racing bookmaker Joe Tomasso (Leo Carrillo) becomes involved with homeless waif Jackie Curtis (Junior Coughlan) whose mother abandoned him some years before. Tomasso acts as the young boy's unofficial guardian and agrees to allow him to become a jockey with the stipulation that all his races must be honest ones. Jackie's mother Myra shows up and wants them to be a family again. She becomes upset over her son's involvement in the sport of racing. Tomasso deliberately creates a situation to drive a wedge between himself and Jackie so that the youth will return to his mother. James Cruze
James Cruze (born James Cruze Bosen; March 27, 1884 – August 3, 1942) was a silent film actor and film director. Early years Cruze's middle name came from the battle of Vera Cruz. He was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but did not practice the religion after his teenage years. Very little is certain about his childhood and teen years because he told a different story at every interview he granted. Career Cruze acted in, directed and or produced over 100 films mainly during the silent film era. His first known acting job was at Lubin Manufacturing Company in 1910. He started at Thanhouser Company in 1911 with ''She'' (1911) which is where the majority of his body of work was produced, much of it as the leading man. After leaving Thanhouser in 1916, he worked for several other companies as director and producer, primarily for Paramount Pictures, from 1918 to 1938. Lee Moran
Lee Moran (June 23, 1888 – April 24, 1961) was an American actor, film director, and screenwriter. Moran was active in vaudeville before he began performing in films at Nestor Studios in 1909. He transcended the silent film era of motion pictures to the talkies. Moran appeared in more than 460 films, directed 109 and wrote for 92 between 1912 and 1935. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and was often paired with actor Eddie Lyons. The two made one- and two-reel comedic films together for 10 years. Moran retired from films in 1936. Moran's wife, Esther, sued him for divorce, but her attorneys asked that the suit be dismissed in September 1922. The couple agreed to an out-of-court settlement. He died from a heart ailment on April 24, 1961, in Woodland Hills, California. He is buried in San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
