RTÉ Concert Orchestra
The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is one of the two full-time professional radio orchestras in Ireland that are part of RTÉ, the national broadcasting station. Since its formation as the Radio Éireann Light Orchestra in 1948, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, has grown from a small studio-based recording group to become an active 45-strong orchestra performing over eighty concerts annually. It is part of RTÉ Performing Groups. The orchestra performs classical, popular and big band evening and lunchtime concerts, covering a range of music from baroque to contemporary. Classical The period from 2003 to 2006 saw a particular emphasis on the classical repertoire under the orchestra's then principal conductor Laurent Wagner. William Vincent Wallace
William Vincent Wallace (11 March 1812 – 12 October 1865) was an Irish composer and pianist. In his day, he was famous on three continents as a double virtuoso on violin and piano. Nowadays, he is mainly remembered as an opera composer of note, with key works such as ''Maritana'' (1845) and '' Lurline'' (1847/60), but he also wrote a large amount of piano music (including some virtuoso pieces) that was much in vogue in the 19th century. His more modest output of songs and ballads, equally wide-ranging in style and difficulty, was also popular in his day, some numbers being associated with famous singers of the time. Virginia Kerr
Virginia Kerr (born 14 May 1954) is an Irish soprano who appears frequently in concerts, opera, oratorio and recitals. She has sung with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, The Hallé and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. Her operatic and concert performances have also taken her to Far East, Russia and North and South America. Regina Nathan
Regina Nathan (born 17 August 1960) is an Irish soprano. Biography Nathan was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was raised in Dublin. She studied at St Patrick's College, Maynooth, the College of Music, Dublin (now the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama), Trinity College of Music, London and at the National Opera Studio. She represented Ireland at the 1991 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, has performed with Placido Domingo in Dublin and proclaimed as Ireland's outstanding New Entertainer of the year in 1991. She has worked with a number of orchestras including the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Cara O'Sullivan
Cara O'Sullivan (1962 – 26 January 2021) was an Irish coloratura soprano singer. Background O'Sullivan grew up in The Lough, Cork. Both of her parents and her grandparents on both sides were singers, though not professionally. She is survived by 3 siblings, including sisters Aoife and Nuala. Nuala represented Cork at the Rose of Tralee in the 1980s. O'Sullivan had one daughter, Christine, an accountant. O'Sullivan lived in Frankfield, Cork. She was nicknamed "Caradiva" by her friends. Claudia Montero (25 June 1962 – 16 January 2021) was an Argentinian composer resident in Spain. Biography Montero studied music at the Alberto Ginastera Conservatory in Buenos Aires. Following her relocation to Valencia, she studied at the University of Valencia. Montero won four Latin Grammy Awards over the years 2014, 2016, and 2018, and the award for best classical album in 2018. She was composer in residence with the Palau de Musica and the Valencia symphony Orchestra in Spain. Culwick Choral Society
Culwick Choral Society is an amateur choir in Dublin, founded in 1898 by the English born, musician and choirmaster Dr. James Cooksey Culwick. Following Dr. Culwicks death in 1907 his daughter Florence Culwick reestablished the choir, becoming its director. The society celebrated its centenary in 1998.
