RTV Slovenia Big Band
The Slovenian Radio and Television Big Band ( sl, Big Band RTV Slovenija) is a big band that appears on Slovenian National TV. It was established right after World War II by Slovene conductor and composer Bojan Adamič (1912–1995), assembling some of its members already in Slovene Partisans that made first public appearance in June 1945 as part of the reopening of Postojna Cave. Although orchestral jazz remained its major dedication, the band played also a number of film scores composed by Adamič for Slovenian films.Hommage to , |
Big Band
A big band or jazz orchestra is a type of musical ensemble of jazz music that usually consists of ten or more musicians with four sections: saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section. Big bands originated during the early 1910s and dominated jazz in the early 1940s when swing was most popular. The term "big band" is also used to describe a genre of music, although this was not the only style of music played by big bands. Big bands started as accompaniment for dancing. In contrast to the typical jazz emphasis on improvisation, big bands relied on written compositions and arrangements. They gave a greater role to bandleaders, arrangers, and sections of instruments rather than soloists. Mojmir Sepe
Mojmir Sepe (11 July 1930 – 24 December 2020), nicknamed ''Mojzes'', was a Slovenian composer, conductor, arranger and trumpeter. Career In 1949, he graduated from Celje First Grammar School ( gymnasium) in Celje. Later he studied piano and trumpet at Ljubljana Academy of Music. In 1950, he started his professional music career as a promising trumpet player at Radio Ljubljana Dance Orchestra. In 1956, Sepe married Slovenian singer Majda Sepe. He also established the jazz Mojmir Sepe Band (), which published the first jazz vinyl record in Yugoslavia. His trumpet career ended after an altercation at Opatija Festival '65 when four guys knocked out a couple of his front teeth as he defended her from having her purse stolen. He committed to composing and conducting, mostly influenced by jazz and swing music. He collaborated with several Slovenian poets who wrote lyrics for his arrangements. The Eurovision Song Contest 1993 was the 38th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Jože Privšek (19 March 1937 – 11 June 1998), who also presented himself with the pseudonyms Jeff Conway and Simon Gale, was one of the most acclaimed Slovene jazz and pop musicians.
