RFA Sea Salvor (A503)
RFA ''Sea Salvor'' (A503) was a salvage vessel of the post-war Royal Fleet Auxiliary. She also served as a support ship for Mine Counter Measures vessels. Built by the Goole Shipbuilding & Repair Co. Ltd., Goole, the ship was launched on 22 April 1943, and commissioned in February 1944. Decommissioned in April 1971, the ship was laid up at HMNB Devonport, and arrived at Grays, Essex for scrapping on 18 January 1973. Service history She spent February to May 1954 recovering the wreckage of the British Overseas Airways Corporation's de Havilland Comet G-ALYP "Yoke Peter" which crashed on 10 January 1954 after taking off from Rome, Italy. HMS P36 (1941)
HMS ''P36'' was a British U class submarine, a member of the third group of that class to be built. She was sunk at the quayside in Malta in 1942, and some of her survivors were shipwrecked again in another submarine less than six weeks later. Service history On 26 November 1941 on patrol in the Bay of Biscay, ''P36'' attacked a German submarine with torpedoes south-west of Belle-Ile island. The torpedoes missed their target which may have been one of ''U-133'', ''U-552'', ''U-567'' or ''U-577''. On 13 February 1942 ''P36'' fired four torpedoes against the Italian heavy cruisers ''Gorizia'' and ''Trento'' in the Ionian Sea about east of Capo Spartivento, Calabria, Italy. Gosport ( ) is a town and non-metropolitan borough on the south coast of Hampshire, South East England. At the 2011 Census, its population was 82,662. Kalkara Naval Cemetery
The Kalkara Naval Cemetery (or Capuccini Naval Cemetery) is a cemetery in Kalkara in the South Eastern Region of Malta. The main entrance to the cemetery is at the junction of Triq Santa Rokku and Triq San Leonardu. The cemetery is divided into Protestant and Roman Catholic sections. The cemetery formerly belonged to the British Royal Navy. The cemetery 1085 graves of Commonwealth military personnel killed in the country in World War I and World War II in addition to 1,445 non military burials and 137 war graves of people of non-commonwealth nationalities. Many graves are marked by Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) gravestones. 1968 Belice Earthquake
The 1968 Belice earthquake sequence took place in Sicily between 14 and 15 January. The largest shock measured 5.5 on the moment magnitude scale, with five others of magnitude 5+. The maximum perceived intensity was X (''Extreme'') on the Mercalli intensity scale. The earthquake sequence, centred between the towns of Gibellina, Salaparuta and Poggioreale, killed at least 231 people, possibly more than 400, with between 632 and about 1,000 injured and left 100,000 homeless. It is known in Italy as Terremoto del Belice. Tectonic setting Sicily lies on the complex convergent plate boundary between the African Plate and the Eurasian Plate.
