REELRADIO
The Reel Top 40 Radio Repository, sometimes called REELRADIO, is a virtual museum of radio broadcasts, primarily airchecks from the "Top 40" era of radio in North America. The archives are available by streaming. Established in 1996 as the first online airchecks archive, it was transferred to a dedicated not-for-profit organization, REELRADIO, Inc., in 2000. The site was organized as a series of "collections"; most collections represent the archives of a single contributor. As of April 2018, the repository featured more than 3,568 exhibits. Two collections are tribute sites to famed Los Angeles disc jockeys Robert W. Media Preservation Foundation
Media Preservation Foundation is a United States 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the archival of media history mainly aimed towards radio and television identification and associated items. It was established in 1994 by Tracy E. Carman and Donald Worsham as an archive for documents and important recordings related to the broadcasting industry. The Foundation has managed to acquire a large collection of items from both current and defunct producers including TM Studios, PAMS, JAM Creative Productions, Johnson & Siday, Futuresonic, FairWest, Wm Meeks Productions, Johnny Mann, Music Makers, Pepper/Tanner, Media General, Jodie Lyons (a/k/a Joseph Callaway Lyons - b.1/3/1930 Jacksonville, FL - d.1/10/2011 Georgetown TX), Tom Merriman, Tony Griffin Productions, Thompson Creative Productions and many others. Aircheck
In the radio industry, an aircheck is generally a demonstration recording, often intended to show off the talent of an announcer or programmer to a prospective employer, but mainly intended for legal archiving purposes. A ''scoped'' (short for "telescoped"—by analogy with pressing the ends of a hand-held telescope to reduce its size) aircheck usually contains only segments where the announcer is actually talking, along with a bit of the music or commercial on either side. In an ''unscoped'' aircheck, all programming is left intact and unedited, including music, commercials, newscasts, jingles and other on-air events. Another category of airchecks are those recorded "off-the-air" by listeners, using consumer or semi-professional equipment. Within the timeline of radio, many people contributed theory and inventions in what became radio. Radio development began as "wireless telegraphy". Later radio history increasingly involves matters of broadcasting. Discovery In an 1864 presentation, published in 1865, James Clerk Maxwell proposed theories of electromagnetism, with mathematical proofs, that showed that light and predicted that radio and x-rays were all types of electromagnetic waves propagating through free space.
