The R612 is a regional route in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa that connects Park Rynie with Bulwer via Donnybrook, Ixopo, Highflats and Umzinto. Route Its south-eastern terminus is at an intersection with the R102 in Park Rynie and heads in a westerly direction. It crosses with the N2 at an off-ramp west of Park Rynie and after 6 kilometres it enters Umzinto. After Umzinto, it goes through the hilly rural area of the South Coast where it notably passes through Highflats and heads in a north-westerly direction. It crosses the R56 (to Kokstad and Pietermaritzburg) in Ixopo and after 35 kilometres it goes through Donnybrook before ending at an intersection with the R617, 5 kilometres south of Bulwer. Park Rynie is a small resort town on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. It was established in 1857 and possibly named after Renetta (nicknamed Rynie) Hoets, wife of one of the John Phillip Hoffman, partner in the firm Nosworthy & Co. that bought the original farm for development. There was a whaling station here built during World War I, Park Rynie Whales Ltd. A breakwater, Rocky Bar Pier and a landing ramp were also built. It is situated on the R617 regional road between the towns of Boston and Underberg and around 50 minutes north-west of the town of Ixopo on the R56. Ixopo
Ixopo is a town situated on a tributary of the Mkhomazi River along the R56 highway in the midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Background Ixopo was formerly known as Stuartstown, was laid out in 1878 and named after M Stuart, Resident Magistrate of the Ixopo district, who was killed at the Battle of Ingogo in 1881. Its name is derived from the Zulu onomatopoeic word, ''eXobo'', describing the sound made as cattle squelch through mud. The 'x', in Zulu, is pronounced as a lateral click). Umzinto is a town, located in the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and falls under the uMdoni Local Municipality. It was a sugarcane growing area and the town was set up as the centre for a sugar mill. Etymology "Umzinto" is said to be derived from the Zulu "''umenzi wezinto''", meaning "the kraal r placeof accomplishment". According to an urban legend, the town's name derived from a visit by two men, one of whom was named Um. On encountering a stream, the men decided to cross it, but Um did not notice the crocodile lurking beneath the surface. Subsequently, Um was attacked by the crocodile, and bitten in half. The R102 is a Regional Route in South Africa. It is the route designation for all old sections of the N2, thus it is a discontinuous road that resumes in areas where a new N2 has been constructed. Route Western Cape and Eastern Cape In the Cape Town area, the R102 starts in the Central Business District and runs through Woodstock, Maitland, Goodwood and Parow before it reaches Bellville. From Bellville, it turns in a southeasterly direction and goes on the outskirts of the city through Kuils River, Eerste River and onwards to Somerset West where it merges with the existing N2. The R56 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Middelburg with Pietermaritzburg via Molteno, Maclear and Kokstad. It is co-signed with the N2 between Kokstad and Stafford's Post for 39 kilometres.
