The R53 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Swartruggens with Parys via Ventersdorp and Potchefstroom. Route The R53 begins in Swartruggens, North West province, at a junction with the N4 National Route (Platinum Highway). It begins by going southwards for 45 kilometres to reach a junction with the R52 Road, which goes to Koster in the east and Lichtenburg in the west. From the R52 junction, the R53 continues south-south-east for 42 kilometres to reach a t-junction with the R30 Road in the town of Ventersdorp. The R53 joins the R30 and they become one road southwards into the Ventersdorp Town Centre as Wallis Street, then southwards as Roth Street, then westwards as Van Riebeeck Street, before the R53 becomes its own road southwards. The R30 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Bloemfontein with Rustenburg via Brandfort, Welkom, Bothaville, Klerksdorp and Ventersdorp. The southern part of the route is tolled, as the R30 forms the first section of the ZR Mahabane Toll Route, with the Brandfort Toll Plaza found 10 kilometres north of its Southern junction with the N1 National Route. The tolled portion ends at the junction with the R730. The R59 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Hertzogville with Alberton (south-east of Johannesburg) via Bothaville, Parys and Vereeniging. The R59 is a freeway from the R57 Junction in Sasolburg until the Alberton N12 Reading Interchange, signposted as the Sybrand van Niekerk Freeway. Route Free State The R59 begins at a t-junction with the R64 about 18 kilometres west of Dealesville. It heads north for 61 kilometres to the town of Hertzogville, where it meets the R708 at a t-junction next to the Palmietpan and they become co-signed northwards. North of the town, the R59 becomes its own road north-east, heading for 50 kilometres to Hoopstad where on the southerly outskirts, before the Vet River, it meets the northern terminus of the R700 at a t-junction and turns northwards. Vaal River
The Vaal River ( ; Khoemana: ) is the largest tributary of the Orange River in South Africa. The river has its source near Breyten in Mpumalanga province, east of Johannesburg and about north of Ermelo and only about from the Indian Ocean. It then flows westwards to its conjunction with the Orange River southwest of Kimberley in the Northern Cape. It is long, and forms the border between Mpumalanga, Gauteng and North West Province on its north bank, and the Free State on its south. It is the third largest river in South Africa after the Orange River (2200 km long) and the Limpopo River (1750 km long) and was established as the main source of water for the great Witswatersrand area after the gold rush during the 19th century. The R500 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Magaliesburg with Parys via Carletonville and Fochville. Route The R500 begins in the North West, 10 kilometres west of Magaliesburg, at a junction with the R509, going southwards. After 2 kilometres, it crosses into Gauteng province. From the R509 junction, it goes southwards for 21 kilometres to reach a junction with the N14 National Route. It proceeds southwards for a further 3 kilometres to meet the western end of the R41 Route from Randfontein. From the R41 junction, the R500 continues southwards for 16 kilometres, bypassing Khutsong and the Abe Bailey Nature Reserve, to enter the towns of Oberholzer and Carletonville. N12 (South Africa)
The N12 is a national route in South Africa which runs from George through Beaufort West, Kimberley, Klerksdorp and Johannesburg to eMalahleni. It is the only other National Route after the N1 Route that connects the Western Cape Province with the Gauteng Province. Prior to 1971, the N12 from Johannesburg to Three Sisters was known as the N13. Route Summary The road starts in George in the Western Cape and ends in eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. The road runs roughly from south to north, however, once it passes Kimberley in the Northern Cape, it gradually turns eastward. Mooi River (Vaal)
The Mooi River ( af, Mooirivier) is a river in North West Province, South Africa. It is a tributary of the Vaal River and belongs to the Upper Vaal Water Management Area. Course The Mooi rises near Koster and flows southwards. During its course it flows into the Klerkskraal Dam, Boskop Dam and the Potchefstroom Dam. After crossing the town of Potchefstroom it bends southwestwards, shortly bending westwards before it empties into the Vaal River near the border with the Free State, about 15 km east of Stilfontein. Its main tributaries are the Wonderfonteinspruit (Mooirivierloop) and the Loop Spruit. R501 (South Africa)
The R501 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Carletonville with Viljoenskroon via Potchefstroom. Route It begins at a junction with the N12 National Route in Gauteng province (south-west of Westonaria), just west of the N12's intersection with the R28. It goes west for 19 kilometres and the first town it comes to is Carletonville, where it intersects with the R500 just south of the Carletonville city centre. After bypassing the town centre, it continues westwards to meet the south-western terminus of the R559. Just after, it crosses into the North West province, and gradually turns into a more southerly direction, bypassing the Boskop Dam, to reach Potchefstroom to the south-west. The N14 is a national route in South Africa which runs from Springbok in the Northern Cape to Pretoria in Gauteng. It passes through Upington, Kuruman, Vryburg, Krugersdorp and Centurion. The section between Pretoria and Krugersdorp is maintained by the Gauteng Provincial government and is also designated the P158, and is also a 4-lane dual carriageway with 2 lanes in each direction. Route Northern Cape The western terminus of the N14 begins in Voortrekker Street, Springbok, at an intersection with the R355, just next to its N7 off-ramp. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. The R52 is a provincial route in North West, South Africa that connects Biesiesvlei with Rustenburg via Lichtenburg and Koster. Route The R52 begins in Biesiesvlei (20 kilometres north-east of Sannieshof), at a junction with the N14 National Route. It begins by going north-east for 36 kilometres, through Itekeng, to the town of Lichtenburg. It reaches a junction with the R503 Route and the R505 Route (Nelson Mandela Drive). All 3 routes form one road northwards through the Lichtenburg CBD as Nelson Mandela Drive up to the junction with Gerrit Maritz Street, where the R52 splits from the R503/R505 to become Gerrit Maritz Street eastwards.
