R369 Road (South Africa)
The R369 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects the R357 near Prieska with Colesberg via Hopetown. Route The R369 begins at a junction with the R357 about 35 kilometres east of Prieska. It begins by going eastwards and after about 15 kilometres, it meets the western terminus of the R387. It then continues east for about 90 kilometres to meet the N12 at a staggered intersection in Hopetown. It continues south-east, following the Orange River, to the town of Orania, before again intersecting with the R387, this time at its eastern terminus. The route continues south-east and becomes co-signed with the R48 southwards for 19 kilometres. Prieska is a town on the south bank of the Orange River, in the province of the Northern Cape, in western South Africa. It is located on the southern bank of the Orange River, 130 km north-west of Britstown and 75 km south-east of Marydale. History It developed from a place to which farmers migrated when the pans were full, after rains. It was originally named ''Prieschap'', the name is derived from Korana and means ‘place of the lost she-goat’. It was administered by a village management board from 1882 and attained municipal status in 1892. In 2011 the town had a population of 14,246. Many residents, historically, worked at the nearby Koegas mine which extracted and processed blue asbestos. The town is 240 km south of Kimberley and lies on the R357 road. The R717 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Colesberg with Dewetsdorp via Trompsburg, Edenburg and Reddersburg. From Colesberg to Reddersburg, it follows the older route of the N1. Route It south-western terminus is in Colesberg, Northern Cape, at an interchange with the N1 National Route, the R369 Road and the R58 Road. From there, it heads north-north-east, crossing the Orange River into Free State. The first town it comes to is Philippolis. From this town, it heads north-east to Trompsburg. At Trompsburg, it receives the south-eastern terminus of the R704. From Trompsburg until Edenburg, the route parallels the N1. The N1 is a national route in South Africa that runs from Cape Town through Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Polokwane to Beit Bridge on the border with Zimbabwe. It forms the first section of the famed Cape to Cairo Road. Prior to 1970, the N1 designation was applied to the route from Beit Bridge to Colesberg and then along the current N9 to George. The R48 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects De Aar with Petrusburg on the N8. Route The R48 begins west of the town centre of De Aar, at a junction with the N10 National Route. It begins by going eastwards into De Aar's northern suburbs up to the Friedlander street junction, where the R48 turns to the north-east. It goes for 42 km east-north-east to the town of Philipstown. It enters Philipstown in an easterly direction and meets the northern terminus of the R389 Road at a junction in the town centre, where it turns northwards. From Philipstown, the R48 goes north-north-east for 40 kilometres to meet the R369 Road and enter the town of Petrusville. The N12 is a national route in South Africa which runs from George through Beaufort West, Kimberley, Klerksdorp and Johannesburg to Witbank, eMalahleni. It is the only other National Route after the N1 (South Africa), N1 Route that connects the Western Cape Province with the Gauteng Province. Prior to 1971, the N12 from Johannesburg to Three Sisters, Northern Cape, Three Sisters was known as the N13. Route Summary The road starts in George in the Western Cape and ends in Witbank, eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. The road runs roughly from south to north, however, once it passes Kimberley in the Northern Cape, it gradually turns eastward. Only the section between Soweto and Witbank, eMalahleni is a limited access dual motorway. The R357 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Nieuwoudtville and Kimberley via Loeriesfontein and Prieska. Route The route's western origin is the R27 at Nieuwoudtville. It heads north-east to reach the R355, with which it is co-signed for 10 kilometres. The routes reach Louriesfontein, where they diverge. The R357 heads north-east again to reach Brandvlei. Here it again crosses the R27, at a staggered junction. East of the town, the route gives off the south-easterly R353, and heads east. It reaches Vanwyksvlei, where it meets the R361, the two are co-signed, and head north-east. The routes diverge just outside the town. The R357 continues east-north-east to Prieska. Colesberg
Colesberg is a town with 17,354 inhabitants in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, located on the main N1 road from Cape Town to Johannesburg. In a sheep-farming area spread over half-a-million hectares, greater Colesberg breeds many of the country's top merinos. It is also renowned for producing high-quality racehorses and many stud farms, including one owned by renowned golfer, Gary Player, are nearby.
