Røyken Upper Secondary School
Røyken Upper Secondary School (Norwegian: Røyken videregående skole) is an upper secondary school situated in Røyken, Viken county, Norway. The school was established in 1978, and the first Headmaster was Olav J. Aadnekvam. The present Headmaster is Ole K. Sageng, and the present Deputy Headmaster is Ellen Watkinson. About 800 pupils attend the school, which offers 7 different programs in the Norwegian upper secondary school system. Røyken videregående skole is an UNESCO-Associated Schools Project school, and offers several international exchange programs. Catherine Coleman (who became a NASA astronaut)(USA) and Una Tomasevic (Yugoslavia) were exchange students to Røyken videregående skole during the 1978–79 school year. Røyken
Røyken is a district and village (''bygd'') and a former municipality in Buskerud in Viken County, Norway. In 2020 Røyken was merged with the municipalities of Hurum and Asker to form the new Asker Municipality (informally called "Greater Asker") located in the newly formed Viken county. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Midtbygda. The parish of ''Røken'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Oslo ATCC, the Area Control Center for the controlled airspace above Østlandet is located here. General information Name The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old ''Røyken'' farm ( Norse ''Raukvin''), since the first church was built there. Tofte, Norway
250 px, Statkraft Hurum saltkraftverk Tofte is a village in the Asker municipality in Viken, Norway. It is situated on the Hurum Peninsula (''Hurumhalvøya'') on the Oslo Fjord. It is the second largest settlement in Hurum. Before 1897, there were no densely populated areas on Tofte. At Sagene, a marble grinding mill was built by the Sagene River in the mid-1890s. In 1896, Anthon Bernhard Elias Nilsen (1855-1936) bought property with associated forest properties, with the intention of building a cellulose factory. The factory was built in 1897, and put into operation in 1899. In 1907, Anthon Nilsen also founded a cellulose factory at Sagene, a couple of kilometers southwest of the factory at Tofte. These two factories, Tofte Cellulosefabrik AS and Hurum Fabriker AS, became the center of employment during the following century. Hurum
Hurum was a municipality in Buskerud county, Norway. As of 1 January 2020 Hurum has merged with the municipalities of Røyken and Asker to form the new Asker Municipality located in the newly formed Viken county. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village Sætre. The municipality of Hurum was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The small village of Holmsbu was granted town status in 1847, but it did not become a municipality of its own. It lost its town status on 1 January 1964. Hurum was once suggested as the location for the new national airport of Norway. The plan was, however, abandoned, due to fears of too much fog in Hurum, and the main airport is now situated at Gardermoen in Akershus. Filtvet
Filtvet is a small village along the Oslofjord in Asker municipality, Viken county, Norway. Location Filtvet is a 45-minute journey to Oslo by car and has become a popular tourist destination during summer. Accommodation consist principally of camping sites. Filtvet lighthouse (''Filtvet fyr'') is on the west side of Oslofjord at the entrance to Oslo. The lighthouse was deserted in 1985 and a beacon placed in front of the lighthouse has since replaced the lighthouse. Filtvet Church Filtvet Church (''Filtvet kirke'') dates from 1894. The church was built of timber and has 200 seats. Both the property and timber for construction of the church were given to the local inhabitants by ship owner C. A. Jørgensen. The church was designed by architect, Alfred Christian Dahl (1857-1940). Filtvet Church was the first church project for Dahl who went on to distinguished himself as a church architect. Viken (county)
Viken is a county under disestablishment in Eastern Norway that was established on 1 January 2020 by the merger of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold with the addition of three other municipalities. Viken was controversial from the onset, with an approval rating of about 20% in the region, and the merger was resisted by all the three counties. Viken has been compared to gerrymandering. The county executive of Viken determined in 2019, before the merger had taken effect, that the county's disestablishment is its main political goal, and the formal process to dissolve Viken was initiated by the county executive in right after the 2021 Norwegian parliamentary election in which parties seeking to reverse the merger won a majority.
