Roberto "Róber" Suárez Pier (born 16 February 1995) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Sporting de Gijón. Club career Deportivo Born in Oleiros, Galicia, Pier was a youth product of Deportivo de La Coruña. He made his debut as a senior with their reserves in 2012, spending several years with the side in Tercera División. Pier made his competitive debut for the first team on 2 December 2015, starting in a 2–1 away win against UE Llagostera in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey. His first match in La Liga took place on 12 March 2016, when he came on as a second-half substitute for Álex Bergantiños in a 3–0 away loss to Atlético Madrid. Alejandro "Álex" Bergantiños García (born 7 June 1985) is a Spanish former footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He spent his entire professional career contracted to Deportivo, making over 250 appearances and being loaned to several other teams. He played 118 La Liga games for Deportivo and Xerez and 247 in Segunda División for those two, Granada, Gimnàstic and Sporting Gijón. Club career Bergantiños was born in A Coruña. The 2018–19 La Liga season, also known as LaLiga Santander for sponsorship reasons, was the 88th since its establishment. The season began on 17 August 2018 and finished on 19 May 2019.
