Réka György (born 25 May 1996) is a Hungarian swimmer who currently competes as part of the Virginia Tech swimming team. She competed in the women's 200 metre backstroke event at the 2016 Summer Olympics The 2016 Summer Olympics ( pt, Jogos Olímpicos de Verão de 2016), officially the Games of the XXXI Olympiad ( pt, Jogos da XXXI Olimpíada) and also known as Rio 2016, was an international multi-sport event held from 5 to 21 August 20 .... In March 2022, György wrote an open letter criticizing the NCAA in their policy to allow transgender women to participate. Gyorgy had placed 17th in the preliminaries for the 500 freestyle in the NCAA Championships, which made her first alternate and therefore out of the consolation final, which includes the top 16 finishers. Freestyle is a category of swimming competition, defined by the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in which competitors are subject to a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Lia Thomas
Lia Catherine Thomas (born ) is an American swimmer. In 2017, she began studying at the University of Pennsylvania, from which she graduated in May 2022. She competed on the university's men's swim team from 2017 to 2020, and on its women's swim team from 2021 to 2022. In March 2022, she became the first openly transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I national championship in any sport, after winning the women's 500-yard freestyle event.
