Ryo Won-gu
Ryo Won-gu (November 1928 – July 2009; ) was a North Korean politician. She is best known for her work on inter-Korean diplomacy during her time as chair of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of Korea and vice chair of the Supreme People's Assembly. Early life and education Ryo Won-gu was born in 1928 in Seoul. She was the third daughter of the politician Lyuh Woon-hyung, a Korean reunification activist and politician who was assassinated in 1947. Before her father's assassination, in July 1946, Ryo Won-gu and her older sister had defected to North Korea and moved to Pyongyang. Then, from 1946 to 1954, Ryo lived in Moscow, where she was a student at Moscow State University. Career For a period beginning in 1989, Ryo taught at Pyongyang's Kim Chaek University of Technology. Democratic Front For The Reunification Of Korea
The Democratic Front for the Reunification of Korea, also known as the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland (DFRF) or the Fatherland Front, is a North Korean popular front formed on 22 July 1946 and led by the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). It was initially called the North Korean Fatherland United Democratic Front. Initially 72 parties and social organizations, from both the North and the South, comprised the front. Today it has 24 members. The three political parties of North Korea—the WPK, the Korean Social Democratic Party, and the Chondoist Chongu Party—all participate in the front. The four most important mass organizations—the Socialist Patriotic Youth League, Socialist Women's Union of Korea, General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, and Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea—are also members. The National Liberation Day of Korea is a holiday celebrated annually on 15 August in both South and North Korea. It commemorates Victory over Japan Day, when the United States and the Soviet Union liberated Korea from 35 years of Japanese rule. Etymology In South Korea it is known as ''Gwangbokjeol'' (; ), and is one of the public holidays in South Korea. In North Korea it is known as ''Chogukhaebangŭi nal'' (; ), and is also one of the public holidays in North Korea. The name ''Gwangbokjeol'' is composed from the Korean words 광 (gwang), meaning “light”; 복 (bok), meaning “restoration”; and 절 (jeol), meaning “holiday”. Order Of Kim Il-sung
The Order of Kim Il-sung () is the highest order of North Korea, along with the Order of Kim Jong-il, and only second to one honorary title, the Hero of Labour. The order, named after the country's first leader Kim Il-sung, was instituted in 1972 during a reform of the North Korean honors system. Its history is not fully known, but the order was initially round, being changed to a five-pointed star design later, and the picture of Kim Il-sung updated in 2012. Recipients can be individuals or organizations, who have contributed to the cause of communism. It is traditionally awarded on 15 April, the Day of the Sun, the birthday of Kim Il-sung. Relatively few are awarded, totaling at least 600, to highlight the high symbolic status of the order. Recipients include Kim Jong-il, who received it four times.
