Ryde Arena
Ryde Arena (previously Planet Ice Isle of Wight) was an ice rink in Ryde, Isle of Wight, England. It was opened in 1991 and had a capacity of 1,000 spectators. The venue was the only ice rink in Isle of Wight, functioning as home ice to the Wightlink Raiders of the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL), in addition to a minimum of four synchronized skating teams and a number of figure skaters. Closure In September 1999, the Isle of Wight Council agreed to grant Planet Ice a 125 year lease for Ryde Arena in exchange for £600,000, with the obligation to run the property as an ice rink for fifteen years and to carry out £800,000 of improvements. Planet Ice took over operation of Ryde Arena in February 2001, renaming it Planet Ice Isle of Wight. Ryde
Ryde is an English seaside town and civil parish on the north-east coast of the Isle of Wight. The built-up area had a population of 23,999 according to the 2011 Census and an estimate of 24,847 in 2019. Its growth as a seaside resort came after the villages of Upper Ryde and Lower Ryde were merged in the 19th century, as can still be seen in the town's central and seafront architecture. The resort's expansive sands are revealed at low tide. Their width means the regular ferry service to the mainland requires a long listed pier – the fourth longest in the United Kingdom, and the oldest surviving. History In 1782 numerous bodies of men, women and children from HMS ''Royal George'', which sank suddenly at Spithead, were washed ashore at Ryde. IIHF
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Ryde School with Upper Chine (referred to as “Ryde School”) is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Ryde, on the Isle of Wight. The school, founded in 1921, is a member of the HMC (Headmasters’ and Mistresses’ Conference). It is the Island’s only boarding school, and is an amalgamation of three Island schools: Ryde School (whose name it retains), Bembridge School, and Upper Chine. All girls school Upper Chine merged with the all boys Ryde School in 1994, making the school fully co-educational. Alumi are referred to as “Old Rydeians”. Gosport
Gosport ( ) is a town and non-metropolitan borough on the south coast of Hampshire, South East England. At the 2011 Census, its population was 82,662. Gosport is situated on a peninsula on the western side of Portsmouth Harbour, opposite the city of Portsmouth, to which it is linked by the Gosport Ferry.
