Ryan Leonard (ice Hockey)
Ryan Leonard (born January 21, 2005) is an American college ice hockey player for Boston College of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. He was drafted eighth overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Leonard is committed to play for Boston College during the 2023–24 season. International play Leonard represented the United States at the 2022 IIHF World U18 Championships where he recorded five goals and one assist in six games and won a silver medal. He again represented the United States at the 2023 IIHF World U18 Championships where he recorded eight goals and nine assists in seven games. Ivan Nikolayevich Miroshnichenko (russian: Иван Николаевич Мирошниченко; born 4 February 2004) is a Russian professional ice hockey forward who currently plays for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). Miroshnichenko was drafted 20th overall by the Capitals in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. United States Men's National Under-18 Ice Hockey Team
The United States National Team Development Program (NTDP) was started in 1996 by USA Hockey as a way to identify elite ice hockey players under the age of 18, and centralize their training. There are two teams in the program: under-17 and under-18. Both teams are based in Plymouth, Michigan. The stated goal of the NTDP is "to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on the U.S. National Teams and success in their future hockey careers. Its efforts focus not only on high-caliber participation on the ice, but creating well-rounded individuals off the ice". While enrolled in the NTDP, players stay with billet families. The United States Hockey League (USHL) is the top junior ice hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey. The league consists of 16 active teams located in the midwestern United States, for players between the ages of 16 and 21. Penalty (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the referee, or in some cases, the linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short-handed as opposed to full strength. When the opposing team is said to be on a ''power play'', they will have one more player on the ice than the short-handed team. The short-handed team is said to be "on the penalty kill" until the penalty expires and the penalized player returns to play. While standards vary somewhat between leagues, most leagues recognize several common varieties of penalties, as well as common infractions. In ice hockey, point has three contemporary meanings. Personal stat A point is awarded to a player for each goal scored or assist earned. The total number of goals plus assists equals total points. The Art Ross Trophy is awarded to the National Hockey League (NHL) player who leads the league in scoring points at the end of the regular season. Team stat Points are also awarded to assess standings (or rankings). Historically, teams were awarded two points for each win, one point for each tie and no points for a loss.
