Ryan Ellis (baseball)
Ryan D. Ellis (born July 19, 1978) is an American professional baseball coach. He was the hitting performance coordinator for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB). Career Ellis, an infielder, was selected by the Montreal Expos in the 28th round of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft from Point Park College. He played two seasons with the Vermont Expos before leaving affiliated ball to play three seasons with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League. During the 2003 and 2004 seasons, he served as a player-coach and stayed on as a full-time coach in the 2005 season after retiring as a player. In 2006, he joined the Norfolk Tides mid-season in the role of first base coach. He then coached for the Binghamton Mets in 2007, Kingsport Mets in 2008, and Savannah Sand Gnats in 2009 and 2010. Infielder
An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Standard arrangement of positions In a game of baseball, two teams of nine players take turns playing offensive and defensive roles. Although there are many rules to baseball, in general the team playing offense tries to score runs by batting balls into the field that enable runners to make a complete circuit of the four bases. The team playing in the field tries to prevent runs by catching the ball before it hits the ground, by tagging runners with the ball while they are not touching a base, or by throwing the ball to first base before the batter who hit the ball can run from home plate to first base. Savannah Sand Gnats
The Savannah Sand Gnats were a minor league baseball team based in Savannah, Georgia. They were a member of the A-level South Atlantic League. The Sand Gnats were an affiliate of the New York Mets in their final nine seasons. The team relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, in 2016 where they are now known as the Columbia Fireflies. History Formerly known as the Savannah Cardinals, the team played their inaugural season in 1984, affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1996, the team changed its name to the Sand Gnats, and became an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. 2020 New York Mets Season
The 2020 New York Mets season was the franchise's 59th season and the team's 12th season at Citi Field. The team hired Carlos Beltrán to be their manager in November 2019, however in the wake of the Houston Astros sign stealing scandal, on January 16, 2020, Beltrán and the Mets agreed to part ways. On January 24, 2020, Luis Rojas was hired as the Mets manager. The season is also the last season to have Fred Wilpon as the team's majority owner before being sold to billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen. On March 12, 2020, MLB announced that because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the start of the regular season would be delayed by at least two weeks in addition to the remainder of spring training being cancelled.
