Ruth Strauss (born 14 March 1963) is a former English professional squash player. Strauss lived in Barling, Essex. She started playing squash aged 12 at her local Courtlands Park Club and won the British Under-19 title in 1978. Andrew Strauss
Sir Andrew John Strauss (born 2 March 1977) is an English cricket administrator and former player, formerly the Director of Cricket for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). He played county cricket for Middlesex, and captained the England national team in all formats of the game. A fluent left-handed opening batsman, Strauss favoured scoring off the back foot, mostly playing cut and pull shots. He was also known for his fielding strength at slip or in the covers. Strauss made his first-class debut in 1998, and his One Day International (ODI) debut in Sri Lanka in 2003. Barling, Essex
Barling is a village and former civil parish, now in the civil parish of Barling Magna in the Rochford district, in the county of Essex, England. It is located approximately northeast of Southend-on-Sea and is southeast from the county town of Chelmsford. The village is in the parliamentary constituency of Rochford & Southend East. There is a Parish Council of Barling Magna. The village is served by one primary school, Barling Magna Primary Academy. In 1961 the civil parish had a population of 1075. The parish of Barling Magna also includes the hamlets of Little Wakering and Stonebridge, and had a population of 1,657 according to the 2001 census, increasing to 1,740 at the 2011 census. The word "Barling" is said to derive from two Saxon words "ban", a boar, and "ing", a meadow. Barling is by Barlinghall Creek, a tributary of the River Roach. World Team Squash Championships
The WSF World Team Squash Championships are an international squash competition organised by the World Squash Federation (WSF) and played between teams representing different nations. Countries enter teams of three or four players to represent them in the championships. In each round of the competition, teams face each other in a best-of-three singles matches contest.
