Ruth Kirk
Dame Lucy Ruth Kirk (née Miller, 28 April 1922 – 20 March 2000) was a New Zealand prominent anti-abortion campaigner. Her husband was New Zealand's 29th Prime Minister, Norman Kirk. Biography Lucy Ruth Miller was born in Taumarunui in 1922, the daughter of postmaster George Miller and his wife Margaret. She met her future husband, Norman Kirk, at a blind date in Paeroa; she was his first partner. On 17 July 1943, they married at Holy Trinity Church in Devonport, Auckland. The couple were to have three boys and two girls, including John Kirk, who succeeded his father as MP for Sydenham, and coastal geomorphologist Professor Bob Kirk. In February 1944, they moved to Katikati in the Bay of Plenty. In 1948, they moved to Canterbury. Her husband worked at Firestone (now Bridgestone) in Papanui and in the evenings and weekend, built their house in Kaiapoi, where land was cheaper. Ruth Blanchard Miller, also known as Ruth Miller Kempster, Ruth Blanchard Miller Kempster (January 17, 1904 – May 21, 1978) was an American artist. Biography Miller was born to Kempster Blanchard Miller and Antha (Knowlton) Miller in Chicago, Illinois. Her uncle was Azariel Blanchard Miller, founder of the city of Fontana, California. Miller began her studies with a correspondence course from the Kansas City Art Institute. She continued her studies at the Stickney Memorial Art School in Pasadena, California, with more classes at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. Ruth Miller (poet)
Ruth Miller (1919–1969) was a South African poet. Born in 1919 in Uitenhage, South Africa, she grew up in the northern Transvaal and spent her adult life in Johannesburg. She worked as a school secretary and later English teacher. She died of cancer in 1969. She wrote short stories and plays, but is best known for her poems, which were frequently anthologised. She won the Ingrid Jonker Prize for her first volume of poems, ''Floating Islands'' (1965). A second collection ''Selected Poems'' appeared in 1968 in the Phoenix Living Poets series. ''Thinner'' (marketed as ''Stephen King's Thinner'') is a 1996 American body horror film directed by Tom Holland and written by Michael McDowell and Holland.
