Ruth Martin (Neighbours)
Ruth Wilkinson is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'', played by Ailsa Piper. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 3 October 1996. Ruth was introduced as Helen Daniels' (Anne Haddy) physiotherapist. She was a divorced single mother, who later established a relationship with Philip Martin ( Ian Rawlings), which attracted some opposition from their children. The relationship was later tested by the introduction of Ruth's long lost son, Ben Atkins (Brett Cousins) and his father Geoff Burke ( Andrew McKaige). Philip and Ruth marry in 1998, amid a breast cancer scare for Ruth. The Martin family were written out of ''Neighbours'' and they departed together on 20 October 1999. Ailsa Piper
Ailsa Mary-Ellen Piper (born 1959) is an Australian writer, director and performer. Career Acting Ailsa Piper worked as an actress in theatre in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne from the early 1980s until 2000. She made her first appearance on TV in 1984 in ''Man of Letters'', but is best known for playing Ruth Wilkinson in the soap opera ''Neighbours'' from 1996 until 1999. She reprised the role in a cameo for the series' 20th anniversary in 2005. Piper is an accomplished narrator of audio books, and continues to work in this field. In 2016, she narrated ''Hope Farm'' by Peggy Drew and ''The Natural Way of Things'' by Charlotte Wood. She also performs a monologue based on the influence of poetry in her life and in particular, on her walking. Rebecca Ritters (born 26 January 1984) is an Australian journalist and current news anchor for Deutsche Welle. Prior to her journalism career, she was an actress. Career She is also known as an actress, mostly for her role as Hannah Martin in the soap opera ''Neighbours''. Brooke Kerith Satchwell (born 1980) is an Australian actress, model and environmental spokesperson. Early life Satchwell lived in Teesdale, Victoria, for most of her life and has one sibling. She attended Toorak College. Career Satchwell started acting in 1994 when a casting agent suggested she model in a few television advertisements. "Friends for Twenty Years" is the 4773rd episode of the Australian television soap opera ''Neighbours''. The episode was written by Ben Marshall, directed by Jovita O'Shaughnessy, and executively produced by Ric Pellizzeri. It first aired on 27 July 2005 on Network Ten in Australia, as part of the soap's 20th anniversary. Planning for the episode began in March 2004, twelve months before the anniversary. Producers decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary on-screen in July, as winter ratings are usually higher. Many former ''Neighbours'' cast members were invited back for the episode. Producer Peter Dodds said the biggest challenge was getting the returning characters and the anniversary episodes to relate to what was going on in the show at the time, but he believed he had found a good way to combine both the past and the present.
