Rusty Duke
Russell "Rusty" Duke is a former judge of the North Carolina Superior Court in Pitt County, North Carolina. He ran unsuccessfully for the office of Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court in November 2006. Before serving on the Superior Court bench, he served as a District Court judge for two years, and prior to that was a general practitioner for ten years. A Democrat for many years, he became a Republican upon seeking re-election. Superior Court
In common law systems, a superior court is a court of general jurisdiction over civil and criminal legal cases. A superior court is "superior" in relation to a court with limited jurisdiction (see small claims court), which is restricted to civil cases involving monetary amounts with a specific limit, or criminal cases involving offenses of a less serious nature. A superior court may hear appeals from lower courts (see court of appeal). For courts of general jurisdiction in civil law system, see ordinary court. Etymology The term "superior court" has its origins in the English court system. The royal courts were the highest courts in the country, with what would now be termed supervisory jurisdiction over baronial and local courts. Pitt County is a county located in the inner banks (northeastern part) of the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 170,243, making it the fourteenth-most populous county in North Carolina. Its county seat is Greenville. North Carolina Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of the State of North Carolina is the state of North Carolina's highest appellate court. Justices of the North Carolina Supreme Court and judges of the North Carolina Court of Appeals are elected to eight-year terms in statewide judicial elections. Wake Forest University
Wake Forest University is a private research university in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
