Rustam Urmanovich Akhmedov (russian: Рустам Урманович Ахметов, uz, Rustam Urmanovich Ahmedov; born 10 November 1943) is an Uzbek military officer who has served as first person to hold the post of Minister Biography Akhmetov was born in the Bag‘dod District of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic on November 10, 1943. By the time he was a young adult, he was studying at the Kokand Technical School of Mechanization with a major in electrification and agriculture. After graduation, he worked as a mechanic for the Akhunbabaevsky regional association "Uzselkhoztekhnika" for about a year. He began his military service by studying as a cadet at the Tashkent Higher Tank Command School from 1962–1965. The Samarkand Higher Military Automobile Command School (; ) is a military academy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a former educational institution under the Soviet Defence Ministry. History Soviet period As it relates to its predecessors, in November 1941, the 2nd Kharkov Armored School, formed on 12 August 1941, was relocated to the Uzbek SSR from Kharkov in the Ukrainian SSR. In 1946, this school was renamed into the Samarkand Tank-Technical School. On 23 September 1969, by a decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, the Samarkand Higher Tank Command School was formed, with the task of which was to train commanders of tank platoons.
