Russian Gubernatorial Elections, 2017
Gubernatorial elections were held on 10 September 2017 in 17 federal subjects of Russia. Sixteen federal subjects had direct elections of governors. In Adygea, the governor was elected by the region's parliament. All seventeen of the new governors were nominated by ruling party United Russia. Dmitry Vladimirovich Ovsiannikov (Russian: Дмитрий Владимирович Овсянников; born on 21 February 1977) is a Russian politician who served as Governor of Sevastopol from 18 September 2017 to 11 July 2019. He is considered a protege of Sergey Chemezov. Biography Dmitry Ovsiannikov was born in Omsk, Omsk Oblast, in Siberia on 21 February 1977. In August 2001, at the age of 24, he entered the Russian State staff reserve and was appointed Federal Inspector in Kirov Oblast. He served as Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Russian Government between 23 December 2015 and 28 July 2016, when he was made the so-called Governor of Sevastopol following the resignation of Sergey Menyaylo. He was later elected as a United Russia candidate to the office in September 2017, receiving 71% of the vote (voter turnout in this election was 34%). 2017 Sevastopol Gubernatorial Election
Governor Election in Sevastopol were held on 10 September 2017. It was the second election of the Governor of Sevastopol after the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea, and was the first direct elections for Governor (last time the Governor was elected to the Legislative Assembly). Background The previous Governor of Sevastopol Sergey Menyailo, who was appointed after the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea, in the summer of 2016 was appointed representative of Russian President to the Siberian Federal District. The acting Governor was appointed Dmitry Ovsyannikov. March 14, 2017, the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol adopted the law on the introduction of direct elections of the Governor. Valery Vasilyevich Radayev (russian: Валерий Васильевич Радаев; born 2 April 1961) is a Russian politician who served as Governor of Saratov Oblast from 2012 to 2022. He succeeded Pavel Ipatov, who resigned on 23 March 2012. He was the chairman of the Saratov Oblast Duma from December 2007 until April 2012. Biography Radaev was born 2 April 1961, in the village of Blagodatnoe that is in Khvalynsky District of Saratov Oblast. From 1980 to 1982 he was a conscript in the Soviet Army, and from 1983 onwards he was employed in agricultural enterprises. His first job in the sector was as a machine engineer.
