Russian First Division 2009
The Russian First Division 2009 was the 18th season of Russia's second-tier football league since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The season began on 28 March 2009 and ended on 4 November 2009. Teams The league has been reduced from 22 to 20 teams. It features eleven clubs from Russian First Division 2008, two clubs relegated from Russian Premier League 2008, five zone winners from Russian Second Division 2008 and two of the third-placed clubs from Russian Second Division 2008. Movement between Premier League and First Division FC Rostov as 2008 champions and Kuban Krasnodar as runners-up have been promoted to the Premier League. They will be replaced by relegated teams Shinnik Yaroslavl and Luch-Energia Vladivostok. Russian First Division
The Russian First League (russian: Первая лига, Pervaya liga), formerly called Russian First Division (russian: Первый дивизион) and Russian Football National League (FNL) (russian: Первенство Футбольной Национальной Лиги, Pervenstvo Futbol'noy Natsional'noy Ligi) is the second level of the Russian football league system. The Russian Professional Football League (PFL) used to run the division. Since 2011, it has been managed by the Football National League. The league consists of 18 clubs. After each season the two top clubs are promoted to the Premier League, and the bottom four clubs are relegated to the Russian Professional Football League. FC Mashuk-KMV Pyatigorsk (russian: Кавминводский Фонд ФК «Машук-КМВ») is a Russian football club based in Pyatigorsk. The club plays in the FNL 2. History The history of Mashuk-KMV dates back to the 1920s and the team named Dynamo. FC SKA Rostov-on-Don (russian: ФК СКА Ростов-на-Дону) is a Russian association football club based in Rostov-on-Don. The club's history includes becoming runners-up of the Soviet Top League in 1966 and winning the Soviet Cup in 1981. FC Sportakademklub Moscow (russian: ФК «Спортакадемклуб») is a Russian professional association football club, based in Moscow. Despite finishing outside the Russian First Division relegation zone in 2008 (the only season the team spent in the second-tier competition), the club could not afford to participate in the 2009 season in the division and volunteered to get relegated to the Russian Second Division for 2009 season. The club was founded in 1984 as a result of reorganization of FC Lokomotiv Chita which was excluded from the Russian First Division, First Division. FC MVD Rossii (russian: ФК МВД России Москва) is a Russian football club from Moscow, founded in 2007. It represents the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Historically the ministry was represented by FC Dynamo Moscow, but Dynamo is now not directly dependent on MVD. Still, several players on the 2008 FC MVD roster played for Dynamo or its youth teams in the past.
