Russell Wayt
Russell Gene Wayt (born October 6, 1942) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Rice University. Early years Wayt attended White Oak High School. He accepted a football scholarship from Rice University. He was a two-way player at fullback and linebacker. As a sophomore, he was second on the team with 70 carries for 277 yards (4-yard avg.). As a junior, he was third on the team with 43 carries for 161 yards (3.7-yard avg.) and one touchdown. As a senior, he posted 13 carries for 105 yards (fourth on the team), a 8.1-yard average (led the team) and one touchdown. Professional career Wayt was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the eighth round (103rd overall) of the 1965 NFL Draft. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. They are the "middle ground" of defenders, playing closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary), but farther back than the defensive linemen. As such, linebackers play a hybrid role and are often the most versatile players on the defensive side of the ball; they can be asked to play roles similar to either a defensive lineman (such as stopping the runner on a running play) or a defensive back (such as dropping back into pass coverage). A touchdown (abbreviated as TD) is a scoring play in gridiron football. Whether running, passing, returning a kickoff or punt, or recovering a turnover, a team scores a touchdown by advancing the ball into the opponent's end zone. 1966 NFL Season
The 1966 NFL season was the 47th regular season of the National Football League, and the first season in which the Super Bowl was played, though it was called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. The league expanded to 15 teams with the addition of the Atlanta Falcons, making a bye necessary each week for one team. This was the last season that the NFL was divided only into two separate conferences, and only one postseason round was played, that being between the two conference champions. The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. During this time, teams sometimes congregate at an outside location, usually a university, to conduct training camp for at least the first few weeks. This is similar to baseball's spring training. Training camp is used in several different ways. New players and coaches use it to acclimate themselves to new teammates and systems. Houston Oilers
The Houston Oilers were a professional American football team that played in Houston from its founding in 1960 to 1996 before relocating to Memphis, and later Nashville, Tennessee becoming the Tennessee Titans. The Oilers began play in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). The team won two AFL championships before joining the NFL as part of the AFL–NFL merger in the late 1960s.
