Russell Road (Ontario)
Russell Road is an arterial road in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It begins in Ottawa in the Riverview neighbourhood and runs eastward through the rural communities of Ramsayville, Carlsbad Springs and Bearbrook in Ottawa and through the Municipality of Clarence-Rockland, connecting the communities of Cheney and Bourget, ending at Boundary Road on the eastern border of Clarence Rockland. In Ottawa it is officially Ottawa Road #26, and in Clarence-Rockland as United Counties of Prescott and Russell County Road #2. History The road was originally built in the 1830s from parts of an indigenous trail that led to Montreal. Eastern Ontario (census population 1,763,186 in 2016) (french: Est de l'Ontario) is a secondary region of Southern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario which lies in a wedge-shaped area between the Ottawa River and St. Lawrence River. Peter Russell (politician)
Peter Russell (11 June 1733 – 30 September 1808) was an Irish-born military officer in the American War of Independence and a government official, politician and judge in Upper Canada. Early life Born in Cork, Kingdom of Ireland to Captain Richard Russell, later living in England, Russell attended the University of Cambridge briefly. His debts forced him to enter the British Army during the Seven Years' War. He was commissioned into the 14th Foot and served in the 94th Foot and the 64th Foot. After fleeing due to gambling debts, Russell returned to the American colonies during the Revolutionary War, seeking promotion in the military, served as assistant secretary to Sir Henry Clinton and being promoted Captain in 1781. He was appointed superintendent of the port of Charleston in 1782 before returning to England. The Township of Russell is a municipal township, located south-east of Canada's capital of Ottawa in eastern Ontario, in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, on the Castor River. The township had a population of 16,520 in the 2016 Canadian Census. Communities The primary communities are Embrun and Russell. The township administrative offices are located in Embrun. Smaller communities listed in the official Ontario place names database are Felton, Forget, Marionville, North Russell and Pana. Both the municipal government and Canada Post consider Brisson and Forget to be part of Embrun, and Felton, North Russell, and Pana as part of Russell. Canada Post also considers Marionville to be part of Russell, although the municipality considers Marionville to be separate. Hawthorne Road was a cricket and football ground in Bootle in England. It was the home ground of Bootle F.C. between 1884 and 1893. History Hawthorne Road was originally a cricket ground, but began to be used for football in 1884 when Bootle F.C. moved to the site. At the time the only spectator facility was a cricket pavilion on the east side of the ground, with football being played at the southern end of the site. Elmvale is a rural town in Springwater Township, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the intersection of County Road 27 and County Road 92 (Queen Street), 20 minutes north of Barrie. Elmvale is home to 2,314 people, as of 2016. History Elmvale is located near Ossossané, the largest Wendat settlement and capital of the confederacy. Modern-day Elmvale, Ontario developed near that site. They called their traditional territory Wendake. Elmvale first got its name when the post office opened in 1859.
