The Rural Municipality of St. Laurent (french: Municipalité rurale de Saint-Laurent) is a rural municipality (RM) located in the Interlake Region of Manitoba and has Lake Manitoba as its western boundary and is serviced by Highway 6. The community of St. Laurent lies within its boundaries. The initial incorporation of the municipality took place on 25 May 1881. It functioned as a Local Government District from 1944 until 1974 when it regained RM status. Under the province's ''Municipal Act'' of 1997, an area must have a minimum population of 1,000 and a density of less than to incorporate as a rural municipality. Armstrong is a rural municipality in the province of Manitoba in Western Canada. It lies in the southern area of the Interlake and was named after James William Armstrong, a Manitoba politician. History The surrounding area was settled by immigrants from western Ukraine at the start of the 20th century. Amongst the original settlers were Michael Pomaransky and Stefan Humeny who settled section 14-19-2E, approximately ten miles west of the community of Gimli. A sizeable community developed as these settlers were joined in the year 1900 by other individuals from the village of Kopychentsi, Ukraine. Provincial Trunk Highway 6 (PTH 6) is a provincial primary highway located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from the Perimeter Highway of Winnipeg to the Thompson south city limits. It is also the main highway connecting Winnipeg to northern Manitoba. The speed limit is 100 km/h. The route is also used to deliver nickel from the Thompson mine to the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg. The portion of the highway between Ponton and Thompson was known as Highway 391 prior to 1986. There have been talks of extending PTH 6 further north from Thompson to Churchill and the Nunavut border. Area codes 204, 431, and 584 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the entire Canadian province of Manitoba. Area code 204 is one of the original North American area codes assigned in 1947, and 431 and 584 are area codes that overlay the entire numbering plan area (NPA). The incumbent local exchange carrier for the area codes is Bell MTS.
