Rupert Jones (curler)
Rupert William Jones (born June 10, 1961 in the Milne Bay District of Papua New Guinea) is a Papua New Guinean (PNG) chess FIDE Master (FM) and FIDE International Arbiter (IA). He served as the Secretary of the Botswana Chess Federation from 1986 to 1997 and in that period chess expanded to be one of the biggest participation sports in the country. Chess career Jones represented Botswana in three Chess Olympiads in 1986, 1988 and 1990. In 1992, 1994 and 1996 he served as non-playing captain, delegate and Head of Delegation. He represented PNG in nine Chess Olympiads from 2004 to 2022. His best result was scoring 10/13, and finishing 6th on the reserve board, at the 36th Chess Olympiad in Calvia 2004. Jones was awarded the FIDE Master title for this result. Jones competed in the Oceania Zonal Chess Championships on the Gold Coast, Queensland in 2009. Oceania Chess Championship
Leading chess players from the FIDE Oceania Zone 3.6 are allowed to play in the Oceania Chess Championships. The tournament is conducted by the FIDE Oceania Zone President and Oceania Chess Confederation under the auspices of the world chess federation, FIDE. History Before January 2012, the Oceania Chess Championship was scheduled as part of the FIDE World Chess Championship cycle, and winners qualified to represent the FIDE Oceania Zone at the Chess World Cup. Angus Dunnington
Angus Dunnington (born 9 August 1967) is an English poker and online gambling specialist and former professional chess player with the title of International Master (IM). Dunnington is most known for his extensive work in chess opening theory, as well as the psychological aspects of both chess and poker. He stopped playing competitive chess in 2003 in order to spend more time writing, has been a recipient of a Chess Journalists of America award, penned over 1,000 articles and is the author of over 20 books, subjects including chess psychology, unorthodox chess openings and online gambling. The English Chess Federation (ECF) is the governing chess organisation in England. It is affiliated to FIDE. The ECF was formed in 2004 as one of the more localised successors to the British Chess Federation (BCF), an organisation founded in 1904. FIDE Master
FIDE titles are awarded by the international chess governing body FIDE (''Fédération Internationale des Échecs'') for outstanding performance. The highest such title is Grandmaster (GM). Titles generally require a combination of Elo rating and norms (performance benchmarks in competitions including other titled players). Once awarded, titles are held for life except in cases of fraud or cheating. Open titles may be earned by all players, while women's titles are restricted to female players.
