History Karawatha Ward The 2007 Electoral Commission Redistribution split the former Runcorn Ward into Karawatha Ward and MacGregor Ward. Gail Macpherson of Labor (who had previously been the representative for Runcorn) ran for Karawatha at the 2008 election and was re-elected. MacPherson retired in 2012 and the election held that year saw Kim Marx elected with a 17.8% swing. The Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) is a major political party in Queensland, Australia. It was formed in 2008 by a merger of the Queensland divisions of the Liberal Party and the National Party. At a federal level and in most other states, the two parties remain distinct and operate as a Coalition. The LNP is a division of the Liberal Party of Australia, and an affiliate of the National Party of Australia. Runcorn is an outer southern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Runcorn had a population of 14,592 people. Geography Runcorn is by road from Brisbane's central business district. Beenleigh and Warrigal Roads both run through the suburb, and are the primary links towards the Brisbane CBD and beyond. Much of the suburb is bordered by Bulimba Creek, with the secondary source for the creek rising within the suburb. History The Jagera Aboriginal people occupied most of the land south of the Brisbane River; Runcorn would have been in the territory of the Chepara clan of Eight Mile Plains, Queensland. Originally a part of Coopers Plains, the area was designated the Brisbane Agricultural Reserve (later the Eight Mile Plains Agricultural Reserve) . 2016 Brisbane City Council Election
Elections to Brisbane City Council were held on Saturday, 19 March 2016 to elect a councillor to each of the local government area's 26 wards and the direct election of the Lord Mayor of Brisbane. The election resulted in the comprehensive re-election of the Liberal National Party under Graham Quirk as Lord Mayor. The Liberal National's increased their representation by one ward to a total of 19 of 26. The lord mayoral result of 59.3% of the two-party-preferred vote was reduced for Quirk from the 69.5% result at the previous election. The main opposition party, the Labor Party was reduced to just 5 wards; its worst result in over a decade. The Queensland Greens won their first ward in this election. Brisbane City Council (BCC) is the democratic executive local government authority for the City of Brisbane, the capital city of the state of Queensland, Australia. Kuraby is an outer southern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Kuraby had a population of 8,108 people. Geography Kuraby is situated approximately by road south-east of the city of Brisbane. Beenleigh Road is the main road connecting the suburb to the motorways leading to the city and further parts of Brisbane and beyond. Kuraby is serviced by a fast electric train service to Brisbane city and the Gold Coast, whilst a bus service takes commuters to the large shopping centres of Upper Mount Gravatt and Springwood. Sunnybank, Queensland
Sunnybank is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is known for its many Asian shops and restaurants. History The Jagera Indigenous people were the first to inhabit the area well over 20,000 years ago. Early settlers noticed that the Sunnybank district had good rainfall and a beautiful loamy soil, somewhat sandy in character, that produced beautiful displays of natural wild flowers. From the mid-19th century it developed into a farming area with prosperous fruit and poultry farms and gardens of every kind. The Town of Sunnybank was surveyed in 1886. The name came from a property called Sunny Brae Estate owned by the Gillespie family. In the 19th century it was part of a much larger area known as the Parish of Yeerongpilly, but a distinct town outside of the area known as Brisbane. In Australia, a redistribution is the process of redrawing the boundaries of electoral divisions for the House of Representatives arising from changes in population and changes in the number of representatives. There is no redistribution for the Senate as each State constitutes a division, though with multiple members. The Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), commonly known as Queensland Labor or as just Labor inside Queensland, is the state branch of the Australian Labor Party in the state of Queensland. 2008 Brisbane City Council Election
The 2008 Brisbane City Council election was held on 15 March 2008 to elect a lord mayor and 26 councillors to the City of Brisbane. The election was held as part of the statewide local government elections in Queensland, Australia. The election resulted in the re-election of Campbell Newman of the Liberal Party as Lord Mayor, defeating Labor's Greg Rowell in a landslide with 66.1% of the mayoral two-party-preferred vote. The Liberals also won control of the council chambers, taking 5 wards from Labor for a total of 16 to Labor's 10. This was also the final BCC election contested by the Queensland Liberals, as they merged with the Queensland Nationals to form the Liberal National Party of Queensland a few months later in July.
